Hi so in a coupple of days I will be working on my first build. Now I decided to wait for the dx 11 cards so in the meantime I was going to take out a evga 8600gt(bad I know) from a prebuilt. When I added this card the bios automatically detected it and disabled the onboards graphics. So when I pull this card out will I have to go into the bios before or after to get onboard working again? If so what and where do I go, I have never had any real instances when I had to use the bios! Thanks.

Oh so you didn't need to do anything in the bios?

The motherboard automatically detected when you installed the add-in video card, right? It will automatically detect when you remove it, too.

I would 1st go to the web site (Nvidias or ATI, you didn't mention this) and download your new driver, place it on your desktop for use later..

remove the ol driver and when thats done the PC will ask to restart, DON'T. Just turn it off so it won't...

remove the ol card, put in your new one (make your sure yur grounded dude ;) ) and make sure also to plug in the right cable, PCIe and even a 2nd one in some cases...

anyhoo after the install start up the PC and add the driver from the deastop...reboot after that an yur golden.

If you remove the driver, Windows will revert to a generic VGA driver *after* you reboot. Your desktop will be fixed to a low resolution and won't look very pretty, but it will be workable and isn't really "bad". If anything, leaving the Nvidia drivers on presents a small chance that it might interfere with the proper functioning of your onboard video in Windows (unless that's Nvidia too).

I guess it doesn't critically matter what order you do it, I think removing the drivers beforehand is more logical.

Yeah the onboard is also nvidia, I think I might just remove after cause I feel more comfortable that way.

Edit I gounder installed programs and I just have a program that says installed drivers so I guess I just leave them all but their is also nvidia PhysX and Nvidia Steroscopic 3d driver which I assume I uninstall b/c I don't think the onboard video(6150 LE graphicshas it lol)

Um I think you misunderstood, I'm taking a nvidia 8600gt from a prebuilt(giving it no graphics card) and reverting it back to the onboard and then with my new build I will be inserting that card just to have a graphics card till the time being the dx 11 ati cards come out.
