depends on what you demand from it. If your wanting it to play everything on the highest possible then perhaps 6-12months. If you don't mind going to medium-high it could last you 2 years or more.
Heck I still use an x800xl simply because I see no point in upgrading. It still plays the games I want to perfectly fine and its overall a good card.
get a 8800gts 512 mb of ram for like 50$ more and play Crysis on high. No need to upgrade for the next 3+ years, unless you are looking at maxing all your game, then it will be 1-2 years.
I am talking about how long will it run games. Because on my current PC I have a Geforce 2.Neubauer4
lol, woah there. Thats a pretty old card that saw its final demise back around 2003 era. Unless that computer is reasonably new and you are for some reason useing that old video card then I'm gonna have to say that you won't be able to upgrade to the 8800gt. Not only will the rest of the comp simply be too slow for it, it will have a 99% chance of not even being able to accept the card.
The unfortunate reality is if you want to play new games, then its time to get a new system.
How true that is. It truly depends on whay you demand from it.
I have a 8600gt and it has lasted me for like 5 or 6 months and I have had my pc for 2 years now and before this one I had a 7600gt oc 256mb and that thing lasted me for 8 or 9 months and so now I'm planning on getting a 8800gt 512mb or the 9600gt 512mb and who knows how long that would last me cause I'm not those people who wants the latest and the greatest thing out there in order to run my games at max everthing.
The same thing goes with speakers or a pc or whatever you own really. I say this cause I have like 3 speakers that I use to own and so now one has gone to my Mom and another has gone to my Dad and both for me at least are logitech and at the moment I have a logitech speakers for my self and to tell the truth they all have lasted me for years..
It all depends on how you treat them and use them. I know it is a little bit diferent when it comes down the a gpu but still I hope you got my point.
An 8800 GT can max most games and is probably the best graphic card in the market performance/price. If the point is not maximizing games and just playing them at good settings, I think it will last you 6 years easily.
The 8800GT is a slick card comparatively. I have been running a 512mb 8600M GS in my laptop for about six months now and I have been able to run all of my new and old games on med-high settings respectively. However if your question is in terms of the cards longevity well then you should play most new games on high for the next year or so. Your only problem, and this is the blight of PC gaming is that it will age quickly with the mainstream advent of the 9000series and in a year or so you will have to upgrade if you want to play the newest games at high-ish fidelity and it will cost money.
Graphics cards usually last around 5 years or so before standards and API's have moved on so far that you're no longer capable of running most (not all) current games. My old GeForce 2 Ultra was a real trooper, and ran games up until 2005 or so.
