[QUOTE="wpintc"] My friend recently ordered parts for his pc, and did absoulutly no research before purchasing the parts.(aside from reading the reviews on the site) the specs are
Asus p5k-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz Lga 775 Quad-Core Processor
G.Skill 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Seagate Hard drive, and a SAPPHIRE 100243l Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Crossfire Supported.
He just ordered all the parts off newegg on a whim, and I don't know much about pc's to see anything wrong with it. Is any of this going to be a problem for him, and if there is a problem what else should I tell him to order (or send back.)

The processor will fit the motherboard.....
The memory will work just fine with the motherboard.....
The hard drive (as long as it is SATA) would work just fine.....
Nothing wrong with the graphic card, the MB supports PCI-E x16 (I'm not entirely sure it makes use of 1.0 or 2.0 PCI-E). Also, the motherboard has two PCI-E slots, but I don't think it would allow a dual video card setup (Crossfire or SLI).
How about a case and a power supply? Does he already have those? If not....well, I don't recommend cases because I have little experience with what is out there, but I strongly recommend he spends a little bit of extra cash on a good power supply - atleast a 550 - just to make sure he's got enough juice to run his PC without problems.
The P35 will be fine with that card and the P35 supports Crossfire. (one card will only run at x4 instead of x16.
[QUOTE="wpintc"]He has a case that has a 500W with it. But if he's not OC'ing anything it wont be a problem right?--Anna--
When it comes to cases, that come with a psu. You never know ! I don't trust them myself, if I'm going thru all the work of building a pc, I always get a quailty name brand. Something like a Corsair, PC Power & Cooling or Seasonic.
Yes, get another power supply. I would never trust a psu that came with a case. All of those brands are good and the Antecs are also decent PSUs.
