So I currently have a Socket AM2 CPU.It`s 6 years old and I am going to buy a new one.But the one I want to buy is Socket AM3.Are those two compatible?Is there a need to upgrade my motherboard?

Would have a chance with AM2+. But yes,you need a new mobo.

You need to tell us what CPU you have and what mobo you have.

Actually just the mobo matters, but tell us the CPU for fun.

you cant carry anything over im sorry you would need to replace both atm once. btw i found your motherboard:
