Just has the title says. Why do my saved game files save in my documents folder? Can i change the place it is saving to? The reason i don't like this is because its full of different game profiles and saves now. Making it more difficult to find my actual documents. Is there any way i can move these game saves into program files under the actual installation folder? This would help me clean up my documents tremendously.

Seems to be the trend these days, and don't think you'd be able to change it unless you were able to program the game to or something. Simple solution: Create a new folder for your actual documents and move them.

I'm glad its becoming a trend for the saved game files to be in the my documents folder. It makes backing them up alot easier.

If you know your way around the command prompt you could set up sym-links (pseudo) for each of the game folders... but that would still leave an entry there. Best bet is as BeavermanA says - make a different folder for your normal documents. The main reason games are saving there is so there is a place that a) doesn't require UAC elevation, and b) is easy to find by end users so screenshots can be located/etc. I think it is a requirement that Games For Windows [/Live] branded games must save game data [save files, screenshots, etc] into either My Documents or \Save Games - most choose My Documents as its easier to tell a 'nub' user where to find them in case of troubleshooting. Its a good sign to be honest, now all developers have to do is 'agree' on a unified location for the save games so that there aren't folders scattered all over Documents/AppData/etc. Some games have options on where they store save games (I know Dragon Age has an override for where saves are stored, as well as a few other games) but most just stick them wherever [with the advent of UAC its usually Application Data, \Save Games, or \Documents\*]

Then why don't you do what the games do and create a folder for your documents?

I don't like that games dump a new folder in My Documents Why can't they use My Documents \ My Games? Much more organized and just as easy to backup and search for. Some games do this - which is great. Next best is when they use publisher name - like EA Games but I'd really rather they just go into My Games and then in a subfolder in there.

Windows even has a specific games folder, but they don't use it.

well i'm glad i'm not the only one who experiences this. Thats what i'll have to do is make another folder for my actuall documentss. Can i rename the current my documents folder to my game data or would that screw everthing up? Or could I take my current My Documents folder out of my Library and Create another one for my Library and have it continue to save it the original my documents?

ya the only two games that have done this for me are crysis and farcry 2. I even tried moving one of my gave saves to another folder. But when i boot up the game i lost my game save and it created a new one for my in My Documents. Its very annoying.

Create a new folder for your documents, then right click it and select the Include in Library menu option. Choose the Documents Library and hit OK. Your new doc folder will now be placed under the Documents library in the left hand nav pane. You cannot rename your current Docs folder as it would just cause the games to re-create the folder structure they look for. The only real way to keep your docs separate is to add a new folder to your library and keep your document files there.

With Windows Vista and 7, as a software developer, you aren't supposed to be saving in the programs directory because of UAC reasons. So I guess that's why it's in My Documents.
