Thinking of picking up the Dell U27, but before I drop the cash on one, I'm curious to hear other people's experiences with them (or any WQHD monitor for that matter).

I'm not a competitive FPS player, so the slower response time of IPS panel displays isn't an issue. My biggest concern is that the monitor will fail to impress, and at 3 times the cost of your average 1080p monitor, I expect to be picking my jaw up off the floor. With that said, how drastic is the difference between 1440p (or 1600P) and 1080p? When you first fired it up and loaded a game, did the differences in resolution, color accuracy, etc, smack you in the face or were they something you had to consciously look for?

Thanks!

well i can hardly see the difference between 1080p and 720p in games on my 32 inch tv. But in movies i can see the difference.

Considering the amount of cash you will be plunking down for that monitor, i would do as much research as possible. Heres a website with an absolutely exhaustive and indepth review of the U27 (and monitors in general): http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2711.htm

Having said that the U22, U23, and U24 have recently released upgraded models. I'd imagine the U27 will be receiving one, though i have no actual sources on the matter or a time frame.... but something to consider given the high cost.

Personally, after usig IPS for a while, its hard to go back to a TN panel. They all look fairly dull or attempt to overcompensate with crazy-high saturation that just looks overblown.

My issue with greater than 1080p monitors is that you are practically required to upgrade your video card at a rate faster than im comfortable with due to the sheer number of pixels you are pushing. Still, if you are still willing to go for it, i dont think you'll be disappointed. Dell has a 30-day return policy. Consider using it if you're not 100% satisfied. Don't feel bad about returning it. I've read up on several people who have returned monitors of that class (Dell U27, HP's ZR27, NEC PA27, etc) several times due to very subtle defects, like slight tinting at a corner. For what you are paying you should fully expect a perfectly working monitor that you are happy with.
