For all of those people worried about the heat (since the fan doesn't seem to go past 20% yet - i'm using a 4850 at the moment) here's a fix until they release some drivers.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=2751569#post2751569

This is simple and it works flawlessly. I'm running at 40% and my idle temp is 45C... 40% fan speed. It does get loud when you crank it up, which is probably why they initially locked it to 20% :D Overclock city here I come.

Anything 60% and up is noticably audible but it makes a drastic difference in temp. Aftermarket coolers are far from needed. Temp is down under 40C at 65% but it's loud. The RPMs this thing hits are pretty crazy at higher levels... over 8000 at 100% :)

Yeah, i hear that too. I went with the one with the lifetime warranty (visiontek)... it may go back in a few weeks tho in favor of a 4870 :P This pretty kills any argument against these cards. I've got mine rock stable at 675/1075 right now. Plan on going for 700/1100. OC is a dream even with Catalyst. 50% fan speed is more than enough too :)

Doesn't the fan speed increase on load or is it constant 20% (or 50%) in your case.

The reason people are reporting high temps is because it's locked at 20% or less. This fix enables you to set it at one speed permanently. You can change it at anytime, but it will remain at whatever you set it to. I am now OC'd at 700/1100 and I never top 54C :) 41C/54C. At 55% fan speed it's pretty quiet, too.

Nice find.

Seeing as many people are worried about the cards temp, this thread should be stickied.

Bump because I saw someone posting falsities. Once you adjust the fan speed, these cards become some of the coolest out there. Runs 6C cooler than my 8800GTS 640mb at idle but a few degrees hotter at load.

IMO it won't help. People remember only what they want to. So even if this thread becomes sticky you'll probably see a few nvidia_boys informing people how HD4850 sux big time..

The funny thing is that I'm generally a nVidia fanboy :D
