    • Memory:2GB
    • Hard Disk Space:25GB
    • Video Card:GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Recommended:

    • Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
    • Memory:4GB
    • Hard Disk Space:25GB

This game must be extremely optimized for AMD. Since when does HD4200=8800GT? or HD5550=9800GTX?

First, of all: 25GB? Holy ****. I think I'll try my best to find this one at retail instead of DD, I don't want to download and backup 25GB of data. Also, those system requirements are VERY low. I don't understand how an HD4200, an integrated GPU, could play a modern game even at the lowest possible settings. Even the recommended settings look really low. And I find it puzzling how the specs suggest an 8800 and a 4200 are the same, as well as a 9800GTX and HD5550 being the same. Either someone screwed up the specs or this game is ridiculously optimized for AMD GPUs and equally unoptimized for nVidia GPUs.

Don't they always list more space than what's needed? I'm pretty sure it'll be a 15-20GB at the most, but still that's a lot. Hopefully Rage f'ing delivers.

Ever think it might be the minimun requirements...Than you raise the bar to ultra..Sounds like most games these days..They have to make sure people with a crappy card can run the game..Not every one can afford a great card like most of us on the pc boards..Some people still use a 8800..Myself ill buy a new card every two years..Not even a top of the line ill buy a year old model..Saves cash that way..

We are dealing with ID here. It would be a cold day in hell before they'd release a shoddy pc port.

They have it running on Sandy Bridge IGPs at 720p and 30FPS.

What I don't get is the huge gap between recommendations for Nvidia and AMD either. Hopefully we get an answer.

Silly Carmack and his megatextures :P must have a lot of "mega" textures this one, unlike ETQW. Looking forward to it.

Absolutly amazing optimization. Seeing that it is Id Tech 5... I can completely believe this.

I wonder how Doom 4 is going to look. If they can get RAGE to look taht good with that little of hardware, what will the PC focused Doom 4 look like.

STOP TOYING WITH MY EMOTIONS ID.

The 25GB honestly doesn't surprise me anymore... hell, I got Dragon Age Origins UE last month and it's 20 GB+.

On second thought, 25GB is almost half my bandwidth limit.

well like assuming this is true it msut have physix support native for when an nvidia card is present and its always on. its the only explanation that makes sense. its silly but it makes sense. i imagine at launch prior to the nvidia driver update you could probably play it on anything as low as a gt 220 on medium

I've been bashing RAGE a lot but now I am hungry for it. Borderlands combat or possibly better, the serious setting of Fallout along with modern graphics.

Big deal, id has John Carmack, the Godfather of FPS, this guy talks about trying to program modern games for old systems as an experiment/hobby... I'm most interested in the modding tools, but I wouldn't be surprised if id found a way to account for all the API mess that forces PC's to waste 70% of their computational power when running games(whereas consoles don't have to waste any). STALKER, MW2, and Valve games are the most well optimized I've seen on PC so I'm curious to see if RAGE can challenge them in this aspect. I imagine the virtual textures(1.64 gigapixeltextures) on medium vs maximum will give the same sort of performance hit we saw with turning on ubersampling in TW2. http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_rage_gearhead_vault-23135_en.html

They don't look too high except the 25 gb lol. Going to take days to download. Hopefully they have a preload on steam so I don't have to wait 4 days to play it.

I was especially impressed by the IOS demo running at 60 FPS. And even in early builds from 2009, the clouds in RAGE looked nice: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/screenshots/original/2009/08/rage_5.jpg

I'm curious what we'll see from the modding community when this game is released, it would be nice to see an "Icenhancer" type mod for RAGE.

oh dear; those requirements are quite low. my old pc could almost max this, then. its not a bad thing, just crazy that they are able to optimize like that. many companies don't even know what optimization is, it seems like.

I doubt you'd be able to max it on an old pc; especially if it support dx 11. The recommended requirements are probably for High... but I'm guessing for Ultra dx 11, you'll probably need a card from the last 1-2 yrs.

Possibly, but you always have the option of maxxing the graphics, or modding the game to let you turn it into an eye-ball melting slide show. Maybe id has become more familiar with the AMD architecture or makes heavy use of a certain type of computation that prefers AMD cards, regardless, I doubt any of the PC gamers on these forums will have trouble running the game since it scales flawlessly.

I don't think this game has DX11. Carmack said he rather build the game up with DX11 in mind than half shove it in.

Great, So I will be able to max this game and play it with better performance than Borderlands!!!! (dynamic shadows on that game is a performance killer)

These requirements are great, nice optimization so far (lets see how it fairs once it is fully released)

Looks at these requirements, then looks at Serious Sam 3 requirements (laughs, hahahahaha)

Since I don't have the luxury (anymore) of very high speed Internet where I live, I guess I'll be purchasing a hard copy of it. 25gb on DSL will take a whole day if not longer to download. I don't miss big city life, but I do miss my being spoiled with cable Internet :(

Damn, I'm gonna pick this up now... The only reason that I was gonna get it on 360 is because I didn't think it would work well with my amd radeon 6770...
Doing some maths though, my average d/l rate is 200kb/ps so it should only 125000 seconds, or 34.7 hours... And I turn my computer off whilst I'm out (as I have to leave it logged in to d/l) and I normally only leave it on for 4-ish hours a day... So in theory, I'll be downloading this for 8.675 days, yet due to where I live, the network connection fluxuates a lot, and during peak times, it can go to as low as 60 kb/ps , so I think I'm gonna get the disk.

Yes, all that for me saying ' I think I'm gonna get the disk' .

Anyway, thanks for the post.

I for one, are super happy with the requirements so far, if they are accurate! I expected it to be higher, but if it needs little more than recommended to max smoothly that would be excellent!

I am excited to play this, because our rigs (phenom II 945 each, HD6870 in one, GTX570 in the other) should max this no problem. CO-OP hell we are enjoying Borderlands right now like that.

COD and BF are great and all, but sometimes I get tired of the same ol military themed FPS game... I think this is a refreshing lighthouse beacon for someone like me. (especially since it seems to be so optimized, and what I seen of it visually it looks pretty damn good!)
