Hello, i just got a new Dell 'Dimension E520', and i would like some experts out there to rate it for me. Thanks. Rating system: 1 - piece of (funbus) 2 - Really bad 3 - It'll do. 4 - Pretty good 5 - Hallelujah! PROCESSOR: Intel Celeron D Processor 346 (3.06, 533 FSB) OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic MONITOR: 20 inch UltraSharp 2007FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel MEMORY: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 4DIMMs HARD DRIVE: 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache OPTICAL DRIVE: Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW GRAPHICS CARD: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro SOUND CARD: Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio NOTE: I've been getting a lot of people saying i've been ripped off. In the price below it includes all my upgrades/monitor/and ram as well. What includes in the upgrades are 3.6GHz total in an intel chip (to be added), and a much better graphics card.

I'm not liking that processor, graphics card, or sound card at all. And I like how you have 4GB of RAM. Compared to everything else, that's quite the upgrade, haha. Because of that, I'll give it a 2.

Hey "Animemog" I have the exact same Pc as yours (or at least that the picture said) and my bro is using it in the basment as of this moment. The only difference is that mine has 512 Ram. At it's heyday it was a top of the line PC. =P

i would give it a 2/3, this is because the CPU is old and not really powerful, the graphics card is very low end, but the good point is the RAM with 4GB (thats why i gave /3) maybe you should change the processor to a intel core 2 duo E6300 and change the graphics card to a Nvidia 7900 GS all for around 250-300 pounds. and then i would rate it a 4.

Why do you need to use negative scores? Isn't the (funbus) rating bad enough?

Well, the highest that my pc could go would be an: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 1.86GHz, 1066 FSB So that'll bring it up to par?

MONITOR: 20 inch UltraSharp 2007FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel

MEMORY: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 4DIMMs

HARD DRIVE: 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache

Your optical drive is good as well.

Those are your system highs...the rest isnt that great (in gaming standards)

For office/procesing/internet browsing use i give it a 4...

For gaming i give it a 2.

SLI is a waste, and your mobo doesn't support it,a single 8800GTX is good enough.

yea SLI would be a waste considering your cpu, but i reckon you should probably get a DX 9 card and maybe the Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT or the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 256MB. check this site for DX 9 cards http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6156859/p-6.html

Well its great except for the processor, video card and soundcard which makes it a 2 - really bad. If you put a core 2 duo in there, a x1950pro and a x-fi it would be between a 4 - pretty good and 5 - hallelujah!

Well, i got it for Christmas (about 2 weeks ago i got it. Shipping problems) My dad who's a Techy at the local military base told me $2000. I have the money to upgrade the motherboard to an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6700, should i do that? NOTE: I mainly use my PC (which is going pretty smoothy so far) for internet, Runescape, and some Battlefield 2142.

Yeah, and a new graphics card. But not for your current uses. But those three upgrades would make it a really sweet pc. You would also have to look into what power supply it has.

Hey Dell isn't a rip off. If anything's overpriced then it would have to be Apple. (no offence to Apple users, but i find your PC's to be somewhat expensive, excluding the awsome graphics card.)

Dell rocks, scew all you haters. But it is true that big computer companies rip you off. You can usually build a pc just as good as you could get from dell or hp or any big company for half the cost.

You dont need 4Gb of RAM for a computer like that. Also that monitor is overkill for your GPU. Since it probably cant handle that high of resolutions.

No matter what you payed for it, you need a new graphics card. Give it a year or so and you will also need a new processor.

Well, my monitor seems to be working fine right now, and the ram is awesome for Battlefield 2142. (whips through everything with lightning speed.) And yes, i am saving up for a faster chip and a better graphics card.

yea i would say that maybe you should of bought another PC, i reckon for half that from dell you can get a much faster comp. but anyways just get a new cpu and mid-end graphics card (seeing that you play runescape and BF2). check if your mobo supports core 2 duo though and if it does then with two upgrades you'll have a really really good comp.

Well, i myself didn't buy the pc. I got it for a Christmas/Birthday present. I trusted my dad in getting it since he's a techy in the military. So i think with about $500 extra dollars for a new chip and graphics card (chip first, graphics card for later games) will do me well for a few years to come.

well its a better processor but its not really good for gaming, the only really good cpu's for gaming from intel are the core 2 duo's. and or AMD i would say the athlon 4000+ series are alright.

I did read your entire post but you greatly contradict your self. How can dell "rock" and still be a ripoff at the same time? Any companies that price gouge do no "rock" in my book. Dell rarely ever uses high end equipment. They use cheap components (motherboard, ram, hard drives, psu) and sell it for a huge markup. The only time you get good components is if choose them in the build and pay 1.5x-2x the market price of them.

Would you please stop flaming Dell. Dell is a loyal company and i have always used it since my first computer in 1995. If you don't like it, then don't use it. And Dell is mainly used for offices/private usage. If you want a Dell for gaming purposes then i would suggest the Dell XPS series, they totaly own in the gaming market. Dell also has the some of most customizable Pc's in the industry. So your pretty much making the call when it comes to buying one.

yea i myself am getting my computer from Dell, i see them as a reliable company, and like bunion said you can customise what your get. and of course it cheaper to build it yourself isn't that the same with everything, i dont see loads of people complaining about cars, its cheaper to make one yea so why buy from dealers, complain about that.

Maybe because dell is a good company and i've owned one. Yeah cause you'd know this? You've never owned one. They don't use cheap components, they are the same you could go out and buy. I would buy a dell over any company such as hp.
