Just put this rig together as a kind of budget gaming rig. Doesn't come close to touching the awesome rigs above me, but when all was said and done, this cost roughly $400 after rebates. Just got 3 antec 120mm fans put in my and ghetto rigged a 4rth one in the cd/dvd drive slot. I plan on making it more secure but its just there to see how it works and to see if it cools it off my case as a whole. Im also planning on getting 4Gb of OCZ ram and when the 1Gb hd 4870 comes out im gunna pick that up but ill probably be getting my RAM first.

Below are some pictures of the system I kinda have. I have upgraded to an E8500 and 2 4870s since then, as well as some minor W/Cing stuff. The pictured system has a Q6600 and 2 HD2900XTs. I have also changed cases, pictured is the TJ-07, but I have moved on to a Mountain Mods Duality.

It doesn't matter how dirty your room is cuz the cleanness(new word lol) of your build makes up for it.:) I hate when people leave all the wires and crap hanging, it just show laziness and a lack of passion in my mind.

Hehe. Thanks for the compliment. I thought I could do a little better myself with the cable management. But I would have to drill a few extra holes by the optical drive cages to get it to my liking. I just don't have the right tools to do that.:(

Where to start. Oh yea, a new Intel socket and chipset are right around the corner. I don't think that buying a completely new computer right now is the best idea.

Also, the E8600 is really not that smart of a choice for consumers atm, since the only difference between an E8600 and an E8500 is a .5 higher multiplier. Considering at the E8500 is like $180, i don't think a fractionally higher clock is worth the $130 price difference. Also it's up to you whether you want to buy DDR2 atm. It's great right now, but don't expect to reuse it in the future as all x58 boards will be DDR3. Also the 280 GTX is only around $450 or so these days.

oh ok, i didnt know about the new intel socket and chipsets, when are they out?

the e8600 ill probably stick with as its a 90 dollar difference here.

i think you may have had a typo with the ram? i was looking at DDR3 but its SO expensive.

also didnt know the 280's had dropped so much. maybe its cos im in adelaide :P lol.

The new Intel stuff is supposed to be out next month, and yes that was a RAM typo, its fixed now. Go ahead and get the E8600, but realize that you are paying $90 for .16GHz more.
