The goal was to be able to play most recent games on high settings on a playable frame rate (30+ fps)

Goal achieved as You can see on my Youtube channel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moHoGLOXIMk&feature=plcp&context=C49faf5cVDvjVQa1PpcFOSHmnUj5WIU7eumfhHAAgm-4VLDPlIAvU%3D

A pretty basic setup that features:

-ASRock N68-GS3 UCC
-AMD Athlon II x4 640 currently at 3.3Ghz
-2x 2GB Geil 1600 Ram sticks
-HIS Radeon HD 5670 1GB Iceq (waiting to be replaced with a 6850)
-450W Generic PSU
-Logitec LS21 2.1 Stereo Speaker System combined with a Sony RX50 stereo audio.
-Philips L96V 18,5 inch LED monitor
-CYBORG R.A.T.3 gaming mouse
-Cirkuit Planet Mickey Mouse DSY-KB821 wired USB keyboard :D
-HAMA Double Action AirGrip Gamepad (00062869)

The best part is that I was able to build this thing with a budged of less than 600$ :) Gotta love internet auctions :D

How does that e9 sound?

ssjspawn

I'm really happy with the setup in general. Mids sound amazing, there's adequate bass..it's taken my whole audio experience to a new level. I'm really enjoying it. I also really liked the aesthetic of the e9 which was why I got it :D

This is my latest build. I'm going to use it as an HTPC, after I get a new entertainment center of course.

The Specs are, Intel Dual Core E5700, Zotac Nforce 610i-ITX board, 4 gigs of Kingston DDR2 800, 160 gb

Hitachi HDD (under the mobo), and a 250 watt ITX PSU. My only real problem is that that mobo doesn't

have a graphics card slot...I'm planning on getting a wireless mouse and keyboard and building the reciever

into an NES controller and then modding the controller ports to USB like I did on my first NES-PC.

Another friend is asking me for a build. Here is what i got. how is it?

Upgrade to a 6850 at least. This mobo is also a much better deal. The i3-2100 is more than enough for any casual-mid tier gamer if you wanna cut back even further.

Just me but I don't trust refurb HDDs. Refurb anything else is fine, but for HDDs I feel much safer with new ones.

I purchased a refurbished 1TB 7200 RPM Cavalier Black drive a while back and it has been great so far.

yeah I got the same one and I love it. but I am going to do a SSD myself. Just put O/S, Starcraft 2, Battlefield 3 on it. The rest of my games on my 1TB Caviar Black

Depends on what you're doing. For gaming always having the latest and greatest doesn't much sense these days but if you're running CUDA or rendering then having the best graphics cards you can buy results in a huge improvement.

psu on the bottom has one advantage psu isnt hanging putting stress on the case but i never had a psu come unscrewed and fall down so no big deal.

i dont really like psu on the bottom though.

Don't forget with the extra weight on the bottom of the case, it is more stable and less prone to tipping over.

How long should my current rig be good for?

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
  • NVIDIA GTX 275 ( 1680 x 1050 resolution)
  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ( Motherboard)
  • Antec Earthwatts ATX 750W
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Windows Vista 32 bit
  • Antec 900 gaming case ( 1 huge fan + 3 normal fans)

I know it's pretty old for a gaming rig (built in 2009). I manage about 30 FPS on medium in Battlefield 3, and usually about 40-50 FPS with everything maxed on any console game. As long as I can run games on medium or higher until 2014, I'll be happy
