I have a new computer and downloaded the most recent version of real player. when i download a video and try to play it (actually this happens for all real plaer videos) it says that 'real player needs to download new software to play this clip" but I click it and it says there is no software download to play this content. i've even tried older versions of real player and it doesn't work.

in my previous computer, i was always able to play these same videos what should i do? pls be specific thanks

by the way, i can play windows media player videos if I they download in that format. however, if i take a real player video and tell it to play as a windows media player video, it won't play.

I think you may be missing some codecs, the extension of the file will shed some light on which one you might need. In the meantime there is a program called VLC media player, it's free and it uses it's own set of codecs (and it has just about every codec too!) instead of the ones installed with Windows. Chances are you'll be able to play the file with VLC media player.

And unless Realmedia has changed their game since I last installed their software (its been a few years), you won't have to deal with a whole bunch of Ads, links, shareware, services and other garbage that comes with Realplayer, either.

VLC is a good alternative. Others include Real Alternative and KMPlayer.
