Hey, so, I'm looking for a PC game in which the emphasis is on story (although, it obviously has to have good gameplay too:P ). I'm pretty new to PC gaming (the only games I've played are Fallout 1 - 3 and Bioshock) so pretty much anything goes. I don't even mind seeking out older games so long as they will run on my PC

Windows Vista/processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+/2.71 GHz/memory: 3.0 GB ram/video card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

I'm thinking of maybe getting Oblivion or Mass Effect...

but please give me some suggestions.

Thanks!

Indigo Prophecy, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Morrowind, they are all a little dated but the stories are great. Mass Effect is a must buy. IMO Oblivion's story sucks compared to Morrowind.

When I was six years old, I nearly drowned impersonating Darth Vader. I only survived by clinging tightly to the canal wall for almost half an hour, with my little leather jacket still zipped up over my head. The passer by who leapt into the icy water to rescue me lost her wedding ring in the process, but my parents made a life-long friend. I recommend The Witcher or Morrowind.

The Longest Journey and Dreamfall : The Longest Journey, have good stories. Indigo Prophecy is also pretty cool for story. If you haven't played Half-Life, you should, but don't start with Half-Life 2. Play Half-Life -> Opposing Force -> Blue Shift -> Half-Life 2 -> Half-Life 2 Episodes.

The Witcher, Mass Effect, Planescape-Torment, System Shock 2, Star Wars-Knights of the Old Republic, Homeworld, and the Half-Life series all offer captivating stories.

Knights of the Old Republic, Half-Life 2, ...Quake 4...? Well except the ending :D F.E.A.R. Those games all struck a chord with me in terms of story and interesting campaign.

I would certainly put Mafia at the top of the list. Knights of the Old Republic was really noteworthy as well.

Some other titles might include:

Half-Life 1 & 2

Final Fantasy 7 & 8

Max Payne

Warcraft 3 and Starcraft

There's more I'm sure, but you can get started on those...

ok thanks guys. I'm going to look into all of the games you suggested.

I have a question about Mass Effct though. I've been reading some reviews and I noticed that almost everyone complained about secuROM. Could anyone explain what this is and why it's a problem? Thanks.

KoTOR I, The Witcher, Mass Effect, Indigo Prophecy, *takes breath* Half Life 2 + Episodes, Dead Space, GTA IV, *one more breath* Neverwinter Nights 2 + expansions, Age Of Mythology. That would be all that came in my mind for now.

You got it exactly right.

When I was 5 years old I used to dream that I could fly. To this day I remember my vivid dreams of soaring around the neighborhood. I also had a hard time distinguishing between my dreams and reality. So one morning, shortly after waking, I went to the top of the stairs in our home and took a running leap off into empty air... and subsequently tumbled head over heel to land with a thud on the tile below. I have been bitter ever since.

You should play Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Excellent game.
(and dammit I hate the crappy autoformatting on this board that always necessitates an edit)

Well, in my opinion Planescape: Torment is pretty much unmatched in that category.

Basically it's a program the monitors your computer to see if you use Torrents and such, Additionaly it also gives Mass Effect a certain limit to be installed before it refuses to be installed again. However if you uninstall it the correct way then you get a install back, in theory.

So it's pretty much malware? Hmm, that kind of puts me off getting it.

Oblivion is a good action RPG, with an emphasis on exploring, not story. Buy if you like Fallout 3 KOTOR - amazing story, some moments have you shocked Mass Effect - Great story as well

The contemporary classics come to mind: Half Life 2, Bioshock, The Witcher, Call of Duty 4 (very generic, but presented in an super-budget movie cinematic way = awesome), KOTOR, Mass Effect, basically ANYTHING from Bioware
