if you liked Oblivion, you might like to try Morrowind, which is the game before it in the series. it's nowhere near as pretty as Oblivion and it can be a bit overwhelming at first, but most people here prefer it. I'm on the fence really, but one thing it definitely has over Oblivion is that the monsters don't level up with you. everyone seems to agree that the levelling system was the weakest part of Oblivion.
also, if you liked Final Fantasy XII, give the other Final Fantasy games a go. on the PC, you've got 7 and 8 to choose from. it's all turn-based combat, but there's so much story and sidequest content so you might still enjoy them.
it's a shame some first-person games make you dizzy. you'll be missing out on a very strong genre for PC gaming.
Hi Lyrianna.
If you liked Black & White then you might be interested in Darwinia and Dungeon Keeper 2.
I'm not particularly a fan of role-playing games but you can't go wrong with Knights of the Old Republic.
You're not really that new to gaming though since you know what you like and what you want. I can't help you with online games though.
Let's combine a couple (okay, 3) of the games you enjoyed (Civilization 4 and Freelancer/DarkStar One) and recommend Galactic Civilization 2: Ultimate Edition. It's basically Civilization 4 in space...and with a single-player campaign. Well, technically, the entire game is single-player (since there is no multiplayer component to it)...but the campaign is at least a campaign and not just a skirmish (which is in the game as well).
If you would prefer something just a tiny bit more fast paced (and I do mean 'tiny' bit), there's Sins of a Solar Empire. Sins is definitely a multiplayer-centric game, as evidenced by a lack of a single player campaign.
And to increase the pace even more (and have a single-player story that is actually well written and engaging...not to mention told via cutscenes that are incredible artistically), there's Homeworld and Homeworld 2.
- Divine DIvinity - Game like Diablo, but with a much better story, but no online.
- Beyond Good And Evil - A must try for Adventure fans
- Mirrors Edge/Prince Of Persia - I enjoyed both these games and some of my female gamer friends enjoyed them aswell.
- Titans Quest - Another Diablo ****game, this one has online coop though.
- The Witcher - Somewhat like Oblivion but much much better story, gameplay and just overall far superior
- Team Fortress 2 - I mention this because i have some female friends who LOVE this game. Its a online Team based FPS that is really team oriented
- Dawn Of War 2 - A Strategy/rpg game that is real fun online coop with a friend. Again i have a few female friends who love this game on coop campaign.
- Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2 - Who knows you might enjoy these games alot more then you did Baldurs Gate
- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Dreamfall
- Commander Keen - My sister loves these games
- Sims - Another favorite of my sisters
If you're liking adventure games you could try the Sam and Max series of episodic games from Telltale games, as long as you like general wierdness and randomness. Or if you aren't overly bothered about graphics look up some of the older adventure games (Day of the tentacle, Sam and Max hit the road, Monkey Island, Beneath a steel sky) since you can find most of those cheap or free from various places.
If you want (what I would consider) an easier entry to the Baldurs Gate style of RPG then Planescape Torment might work. I personally found it easier to get to grips with, though that may just be because I found the story to be deeper.
Other than that all of the suggestions here are solid. In general just go with your gut and never forget you can trade these things back in:P.
Its nice seeing a girl thats playing computer games :) If you are a fan of RPG's you should really try Sacred and Sacred 2(if your computer can handle it)
Fable : The Lost Chapters is a great game too :) Good luck
given by what you thought about oblivion, which is what i thought i think the games you will like the most are very structured rpgs with a planned out and very good story for you to enjoy
knights of the old republic -classic, best game ever
witcher- amazing rpg, really good story
mass effect- another excellent rpg
bioshock- good story as well, a little short though
neverwinter nights 2- another very good one
i highly reccomend you try some rpgs with a really good story- much more enjoyable than sandbox rpgs like oblivion
Also, what is a sandbox rpg?lyrianna
a sandbox game is one which gives you a large degree of freedom to play the game as you please, often letting you choose whether you want to take part in the main objectives of the game, or simply ignore it and enjoy exploring a open world doing what you like. Oblivion and Grand Theft Auto are both sandbox games.
I downloaded some demos and I think I've discovered that I don't particularly care for strategy type games. Controlling armies or hordes of people just isn't really my thing. Civ IV must have been some kind of fluke. And I've never understood the appeal of The Sims. I know, they're incredibly popular, but not what I want from a game.
However, Divine Divinity is great and NWN also seems like I'll enjoy it a lot.
Also, I own Commander Keen and I really enjoyed it back in the day, but like many old games, it's hard to go back. The nostalgia is great, but being spoiled by newer games somehow lessens the experience. I went back and tried out Space Quest again, and was sadly disappointed. I have such fond memories of those games.
Does anyone still play Dungeon Siege 2 online?
