resurrecting 2009 PC build

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get back into PC gaming so I dusted off my old build from 2009. As of right now, my video card is severely outdated and my heatsink is barely hanging on because the little push pins are broken. Its the stock heatsink. So, I need to replace some parts.

Now, if the i7 920 is still a pretty decent processor, I would like to keep that and overclock it to save some bucks, but I'll need a new heatsink. I don't have any experience OC'ing but I know you have to have a decent set of RAM to get anywhere, will these 6 GB be good enough to OC to around 3.6GHZ? And is 6GB enough these days for gaming?

And for a video card, If I were to splurge for a GTX 670, would this build be able to max out BF3 at 1080p? Would my PSU be enough to handle that powerful of a card?

I will also need a new HDD, I'm thinking of a SSD, I've been using a 5400 RPM eMachines HDD since like 2003 ;)

everything is good except for your graphics card. If you don't mind AMD i recommend going for the 7970, its the same price as the 670 but it is the fastest single gpu on the market. Simply put the 670 and the 680 are inferior to it.

As for SSD's, the prices on them have really fallen, and you could get a decent 120gb one for about $80. Back in 2009, this would have cost you more than $500. Still, the storage size on SSD's are limited so I recommend buying a 7200rpm 2tb HDD as your main storage which costs around $90.

So a video card for $400, SSD for $80 and HDD for $90, the total will come to $570 plus taxes s&h, so lets just round up and say around $700.

everything looks great just stick a GTX670 or 7970 and a Hyper 212 evo in there and your gonna max everything. I have a i7930 which is essentially the same as the 920 and its great.
