Anyone else playing this? I've played a couple hours so far and it seems great. The opening levels are fantastic. I'm speculating that Volition reduced the size of the Red Faction: Amrageddon team in order to put more people on SR 3, which would explain the former game's short comings. It seems like a lot of work went into SR 3.

In short, the PC version is fantastic, looks and runs great, and it seems like a ton of fun. The customization options are incredible, and so is the humour. I don't think I've ever laughed so much during a sandbox game.

It also seems to have some fairly robust RPG stat-buidling type mechanics, you gain levels and unlock upgrades to your character such as damage and health boosts.

My only gripe so far is the car handling which is overly responsive... the car's have no weight to them. The complete opposite of car handling in GTA IV.

Then again, i've hated any and all car handling in a driving game since I started playing Trackmania 2 so other people might find it ok.

I have heard nothing but 100% great feedback so far.

Infact a handful of friends say its there GOTY so far.

I am very glad to keep hearing from people that the performance is way better then that in SR2.

Also that the coop works very well, cant wait to try it in a few days. I played an hour of it at a mates place seemed good.

For those of you on the fence, if you liked SR 2 apart from the technical isses, you will love this.

Personally, I enjoy the game design of the Saints Row series much more than that of the GTA games. Less annoying gameplay mechanics that force you to replay entire missions, or load prevoius safe house saves to recover ammo and armor.

Its also just full of ridiculous stuff. Like, driving down the street and encountering someone dressed in a pink bear suit driving a golf cart in the opposite direction. The traffic AI is also hilaroius, they constantly get into accidents and run over pedestrians.

I as in a firefight with a rival gang at one point, and a civilian SUV drove past and ran over the guys I was shooting at. Well, not just guys, srippers with guns and dudes dressed as mexican wrestlers.

One of the things I always liked about Volition, Inc. games is how a lot of the neat things in their games are from unscripted events, although the problem with that is that not everyone has the same gameplay experience, but that's neat in a way. I love running vehicles over using the Challenger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tOCNAM7sao&hd=1 It's the new gold standard for sandbox games, deal with it :P

I want to get it, but I'm sure I'll never get to play it with Batman AC and AC Revelations coming out soon. And you know, Skyrim came out on 11.11.11. :P

Could you delve into more detail in this? The game looks fantastic and I have no doubts on that, but I'm worried if it was another bad PC port like the 2nd.

What specs do you have and what settings do you use? At those settings, what frames per second do you get? Any stuttering? Smooth experience? Thanks. :)

well sr2 was a port handled by a third party... sr3 is a regular multiplat game.

I'm running on Ultra with 4xAA and 16xAF at 1600x900, but with Ambient Occlusion and Shadows set to medium (one level down from the highest). I get around 40-50fps outside, and 60+ inside. It plays very smoothly at anything above 30fps with no noticable drops, stuttering or lag spikes.

My specs:

i5-2500k at stock speeds, 8 gigs ddr3, ati HD5850 running at close to 5870 speeds. I've heard the game runs better on Nvidia cards and has issues with ATI cards, so i'm happy with the performance. It also looks quite good.

I tested it with one core disabled on my GTX 590 HC with everything on ultra at 1920x1080 and it doesn't dip below 80 FPS for me, and one issue with bad ports is that they may have emulator code wrapped around them like we saw with GTAIV so there is massive amounts of unnecessary CPU usage, that's certainly not the case here. As I've said before, SR3's PC port has been done much better than the Skyrim PC port.

I'll be playing it extensively on Friday. Saving it for when I have a good chunk of time free. Definitely looking forward to it though.

Its a great game, but I feel that some thing are worse in this game then SR2.

  • Shaundi sucks now. She used to be a funny character (with her being high and the amount of people she had sex with), but the new voice actor is not as good as Eliza Dushku, and overall her dialogue is terrible.
  • Speaking of dialogue, I noticed it isn't as good as SR2, there is less humour, and I just find it pretty weak to start with
  • Less customization, you can't customize your cribs anymore, there are less clothing and tatoo options
  • Steelport is kind of lame compared to Stillwater, not to mention much smaller

Thats all I have noticed so far, but I haven't played very much. Despite what I said I still love this game (Penetrator FTW!)

Hopefully some of these things (such as clothing and tatoos) will be fixed with mods (if there going to be any)

The game may look better over all but the pop up is pretty bad in this game, worst than SR2 was.
