samsung uses the same parts on their television as sony does. sony televisions are only more expensive than samsungs because of their nameddldave
SXRD sets are Sony's implimentation of LCoS, which is a different display technology from DLP. It's not accurate to say that these two tvs have the "same parts".
i researched both these tv's for about 2 months, and ended up buying the samsung 50" 1080p dlp. looking at them side by side at the store, the samsung had a much brighter picture, better contrast, and better colors. the sony did seem to be a little clearer, but not enough to justify spending an extra $300, plus the samsung accepts 1080p signals through component cables, and the sony does not. i've had my samsung for about 2 months now and it has been working perfectly.

Thank you for your reply. This is the kind of response I was looking for. I have a Sony 1080p SXRD display and I can't get the colors exactly right. I don't like the idea of moving parts in the DLP sets but the color accuracy might cancel that out. Does anyone know the bulb life for the Samsungs?
i've heard anywhere from 8 months to 2 years on the bulb life. i made sure to buy the 4 year protection plan, so i can get at least 2 bulbs replaced. without a protection plan, i've heard it can cost anywhere from $300 to $500 to replace the bulb, depending on if you just buy the part and install it yourself, or if you have someone install it for you. from what the guy told me when i bought the samsung dlp, he said that the replacement bulb for the samsung is cheaper than the sony replacement bulb, but thats just what he said, i never actually looked into the cost of the replacement bulbs.
