Ive been recently looking for some new sandbox styled games to try out. Unfortunately its been a bland few years for the sandbox games i'm talking about. There are a bunch on the horizon like Star Citizen, Kenshi and Kinect void but some of those titles will range any where from a year or more. In the mean time I need some fillers.

Before you start jutting out game title let me tell you what im not looking for and give you a list of games ive found and play in case you to are searching the internets for some finds. Games like Skyrim, GTA and others along those lines are not what i would consider a full on sandbox game. Sure these games let you do what you want but my actions dont really carry much effect. For instance in skyrim killing off the rebels has little effect on gameplay and really just makes a small visual change in the world and if i choose to kill the rebels its hardly different and either way the game plays out the same pretty much. ps im not here to argue what a sandbox is. (yet)

Heres a list of games ive been playing recently of the sub genre

  • Eve online
  • X 3 Series
  • Minecraft
  • Kerbal Space Program
  • Sim City
  • Dwarf Fortress
  • Rail Road Tycoon

i see tht u like sim city style games

Check out anno 2070. it's $20 on sale. little pricey but, WELL WORTH IT. i would spend the money all over again. The game tons of content. Today i spend 6hours in one city and nowhere near "completing it" It has mp that you can join up with people and work together/race or w/e u want

bought the game last Saturday played 41hours so far.

heres a video of a guy that made a beginners guide which has alot tips. HE made 7 videos all 1hour long. just scan through the videos to get fill how much content it has. ALL 7 videos is the very same game save

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYFLhADYd3k

$20 from steam ATM. and yes thats the cheapest i have ever seen it http://www.amazon.com/Ubisoft-40856ANNO-20701-ANNO-Download/dp/B00657AVMO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357276218&sr=8-2&keywords=anno+2070

the only complaints i seen so far on this game is sololy the DMR requires you be online to start the game. Stuff like that don't bother me though

Although they are strategy games, Endless Space and Sins of a Solar Empire both have sandbox modes- i.e no campaign mode, and they aren't linear- they have several different victory conditions, allowing you to play several different gametypes in one.

The first Empire Earth game in 2001 had such a great sandbox mode I played that game for months and ended up coming back to play out again for months at a time for years after. The sequels were student games and I was disappointed. Age of Empires III had a colonial theme that was very cool with beautiful graphics but I had trouble getting the AI to work in sandbox mode and gave up. Second Life is great for building things and buildings but I want an updated war and building sim with powerful AI. I have played and liked all the Anno games and they are fun but in between them I want to experiment with putting various technologies against each other like in the first Empire Earth.
