Sata 3gb/s or 300mb/s

Hey guys, Im looking at some mobos and I see sata 3gb/s or 300mb/s.
I dont understand the meaning of this.
Someone care to explain please.
Does it really matter?

...you dont see the difference btwn 3 gigabytes per second, and 300 megabytes per second? the first one is 10 times faster.

Ok but there are some motherboards with 300mb/s right? like the evga 650i, its written 300mb/s but on some mobo specs its written 3gb/s.

I dont understand this sata, ata, sata 3gb/s, sata 300mb/s.

They are both data transfer rates and this site explains everything http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mbit/s
