I know this has kind of been done with the scariest moment in a game thread...but i wanna know, has there been an enemy or boss thats totalyl freaked somebody out? the doom bosses did a good job of that.

for me, i have that fear of spiders (i know what its called but i cant spell it) so the giantspider boss in Dark Messiah freaked me out, as well as those spider enemies. or the spiders in doom.

also, i dunno if anyone remembers Clive Barkers: Undying. that entire game was f***ed up, the enemies were scary as hell.

it not really a boss, but a step up from the average enemy soldier in F.E.A.R

the first time i ran into one of those crazy soldiers that looks like it has wings or w/e kind of crazy armor suit they had and uses a penetrator, kinda freaked me out (i rememebr , it was late at night and i was using a nice headset at full blast to add to the momentum)

Seeing Ugh Zan the first time in Serious Sam First Encounter freaked me out. It was the largest boss, largest anything, I've ever seen in a game. As he crashed his way over the Egyptian buildings, I was like "you've gotta be ***ting me!". Obviously not scary, but definately menacing from just the sheer size.

One of the splicers from bioshock appeared right behind me after I picked up an upgrade. I jumped up about 6inches.

Also the fast zombies from HL2. Headcrabs... not so much. Mainly because you expected them to be in vents and stuff.

I think it was when I was playing HL2: Episode 1, and I had commentary turned on, and I was getting an ammo box when the commentary mentioned how poison headcrabs made perfect surprise enemies, and...well, it's predictable from there.

Spiders in Dark Messiah scared the hell out of me, i didn't like how slowly they peered round a corner then swarmed you. And then coming across that big mother******* one was even worse.

The fast zombies in HL2 and Episode1 creeped me out, they were just so fast and came from out of no where. Especially the first time you encounter them, my god did i jump. The bit in Episode1 where you and Alyx have to kill waves of zombies while waiting for an elevator also got to me, it was so dark and then suddenly a fast zombie would come jumping out the dark at you. Spilt my drink on my keyboard the first time i played this section.

I remember that part, too. Spiders, simply put, freak me out. I was playing a warrior class, and two of my friends were watching over my shoulder. Both were like 'this should be good' when I looked up and realized there were tons of spiders coming down. I did a lot of swearing and stabbing them while they were down. :D The Aliens from the Marine campaign in AvP2 were pretty nasty.

Doom 3's Imps maybe... just keep leaping to your face like a overactive puppy.

HL2 Poison Headcrabs, especially if theres other enemies around. Oh yeah, those fast zombies too, but they dont pose such a big threat since a good dual-shotgun blast will kill it easily. Is that considered as a SPOILER?

Shodan, from SS2, its voice was so creepy and the quotes like 'Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?', just wow

The snorks from stalker are kinda freaky cause they sound like lions and crawl on the floor, otherwise I think the acrobatic half invisible crawling jumping and scratching around enemies in fear are very freaky when you first encounter them.

The Xenomorphs and freaky facehuggers from Aliens vs. Predator 2. Walking on the walls and ceilings was pretty scary of them, and the quickly-shoot-them-before-they-facehug-you scenes were frightening.

The fast zombies from Half-Life 2. I get the chills when I hear their wail, but when they start running at you with their fleshy body and hungry growls it's beyond frightening. The part on Ravenholm when you had to run away from them because they never stop coming and have to actually open up and close a door behind you.. Man that part gets me every time, and I must have played this level, like, 20 times since HL2 was released.

These bloodsuckers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'nuff said.

When i first played Qauke i got scared lol but i was young, oh and when i was 9 (im 15 now) my mum came home with the first silent hill and told me to test it out, so there i am playing silent hill thinking WTF, i walked down the first couple of alley ways and and got so scared i ripped the cord out of the wall and ran off, after no game seemed to scare me.

but then i brought stalker about a month ago and when you first get into the labs and there are a few snorks around oh man was i scared i stopped playing for a bit and went and had a drink lol i was playing at like 12 at night oh and i have a massive fear of water in games it scares the crap out of me, i could never play the old tomb raiders cos there was this water level where you have to swim everywhere and there were sharks and yer i just couldnt do it its weird lol

The invisible freaks that stalk you in the office in FEAR were pretty scary the first time round, I couldn't bare to move forward in the game, I jumped when they threw the dead body through the office glass.

The encounter with the EVE suit in the hotel made me panic too, coming down from the ceiling... I wasn't prepared at all!

The Ravenholm area in HL2 is definitely one area I dread every time I play HL2... Those fast zombies and the poison crab throwing guy just get to me every time.

Bloodsuckers in STALKER.

Terrifying, at first. Invisible.....glowing eyes....blood on the screen....the howls....then they'd disappear into the buildings and trees.....and you KNOW they're still out there, waiting for you.

After meeting the first one, you'd never trust your flank again. You'd look over your shoulder every 10 seconds, praying not to see that quiet, shifting, demon chasing your sorry ass down.

Oleg_Huzwog

After spending countless hours getting scared by these things, I have to admit that they are the enemy that scares me the most. More than anything in FEAR, Doom3, and Bioshock (if that can be called scary). I freaking hate headcrabs.

After playing through Half-Life 10+ times and Half-Life 2 5+, I still get scared occasionally by the little $#@%@#$s...

probably one of the most scariest parts in an FPS for me was the first encounter with the big alien fish things in HL1, theysurprised me so bad i couldn't play HL1 for a few weeks... at the time i felt like a wuss but now that i read some of your guys' responses i guess i'm not alone.

but here's a list of my scariest bosses/enemies

Half-Life Series:
1. Fast Zombies
2. Alien Fish (forget the names)
3. Final boss of HL1
4. Stalkers

RE4:
1. Lake Monster
2. Sewer monsters
3. Dual chainsaw old ladies :P

Halo:
1. Flood

Console Games:
1. Baron Samedi from Goldeneye n64
2. Clanker

as you can see i don't play many horror games... but it does seem like a lot of gamers share the same fears.

Quake 1:
The guys with the chainsaws and grenade launchers.

Quake 2:
The guys with the chainguns for an arm.
The cyborgs that run straight at you and gave you a massive hit with a robotic arm regardless of what you were shooting at them.

Half-Life 1:
The enemies that had a tendancy to spawn out of nowhere when you have no health packs in sight.
The occasional head crab hidden behind something not making any sound till they are right up on you.

Serious Sam:
The HUGE enemies such as the bulls, the chaingun/rocket launcher weilding scorpions, the four armed fireball throwers and the laser/rocket launcher weilding macines.
The headless bombers. They were harmless by themselves but in a massive swarm where you have no where to run and a limited amount of ammo, Things can get tense.
