if you don't give any more info on your system spec. and so shorter answer is possible...I'd suggest you do this in Hardware forum.

It really depends what monitor and graphics you have i think man. Let us know some specs. Some monitors have a setting that they usually look best on (Mine is 1680 by 1050 because its a widescreen LG)

640x480. Or 800x600 if the game doesn't support it.

ok I will give a short answer, but I do think you should go hanging aorund hardware forum at least for a while.

IF your Dell monitor is LCD (flat panel, no huge behind), just pick the highest possible resolution your game menu allows: that's native res. of your monitor.

Ya its LCD, what do you mean by highest possible resolution? Like put in resolution in biggest amout of pixels or smallest amount? It ranges from 800 by 600 to 1280 by 1024.

And why would i wanna start a new same thread in hardware forum, but thanks for telling me that though next time i will use that forum.

go to START/RUN CONSOLE then type dxdiag on the new window click the display tab, then come back and report your actual resolution

and if you can post the system info tab is better

Lower resolution improves performance but also makes the visuals worse.

Higher resolution gives you better detail, but of course the more detail your graphics card is set to produce, the lower your frame rate will be generally. The ideal situation is a graphics card where setting it to the highest resolution your monitor supports with all graphics features turned on runs your game at a frame rate that is indistinguishable from any higher frame rate to the human eye...but that pretty much never happens with newer PC games even with the best graphics card available. :P
