Can't say I'm surprised.  Vaporware that went up, well, in a vapor.  :D

Yeah this doesn't mean it's officially dead and in fact the article doesn't say that, but...

I did read that Canon is changing course to focus on OLED technology since the lawsuit - which would lend some credence to what you've said.  I still think there will be some SED's out though.  We'll see.

SED, OLED, LED, FED...none of it means a thing until it can be competitively priced.  I don't care what technology is in a TV, I'm not payin 5k for a 40" screen.

There's a good part to that.  New technoly is verry expensive.  Figure on a new gen set to run $10k or better.

Figure on what's state of the art now, ie LCDs, to come in price.  Whereas a 40" Sony might cost $2000-$2500 now, be down to $1000-$1500 when the new gen stuff comes out.

I always buy old tech

I wouldn't count on that so much just yet, Sony will never drop their prices, too stubborn (they still sell a 40" XBR2 for $2700...and the XBR2/3 series are just absolute crap in the quality department).  There is still a baseline number that needs to be met to make a profit on the TV's.  I think LCD's are nearing their bottom right now.

Seriously. 90% of new technologies never make it to maket. Especially when it comes to disc formats or new display formats

Who cares?  The 8th Generation Pioneer Plasma's were said to have looked just as good if not better then SED displays did at CES 2007.
