Well I have a gaming PC and i am worried that i may be raising the powerbill more. I don't pay it my parents do, but i want to make sure i am not making it go up too high. My PC specs are

Intel q9400

4gb DDR2 Ram

Nvidia 9800gtx+

5 120mm case fans

1 top 200mm fan

750w Powersupply

Noctua 120mm CPU heatsink.

I want to know if anyone has any idea as to how mucha gaming PC can raise the powerbill by it ould be a real help. Sometimes i game on my console so as to not use so much power as my 360 only consumes about 150w and my tv uses 65w. Can anyone give me some numbers or anyone has nay idead as to how much a gmaing PC can raise a powerbill.

Keep in mind the power supply rating is not an indication of how much power it actually uses from the socket. I don't know if there's an easy way to figure out real-world power use without buying a killawatt device, but a quick look online pegs the average 600w computer at just over 200 watts on load. And only 100 watts on idle, as processors and video cards are good about throttling power usage. My guess is that yours doesn't use much more power than that either. It might even use less.

Well, how much do you use the computer and where do you live? Power is about 5 cents a kilawatt hour here, but I know it's higher in the US (especially California and the east coast). If you game on it a few hours a day, that's maybe 20kW a month of total power use. At five cents each, that's only a dollar of power. Though if you are in California and not BC or some place with cheaper power, it might be a few dollars instead, depending on the rate. Still not an awful lot.

lets see well since im out of school i usually play for maybe 5 hours a day of actual gaming, other times trhoughout the day ill have it on to check my email or facebook, then i put it in standby mode. Its low power usage in standby but im considering jsut shutting off from now on. I also Have thermaltake toughpower PS, i got one of those i heard thy were more efficient. BUt yeah I game maybe 5 hours of actual gaming and then periodic times of just being on the net.

Then I doubt your computer directly contributes to more than five or six dollars of electricty every month in a worst case scenario - and that might be a stretch. And don't worry about standby or sleep mode - the computer uses so little energy at that point that it's barely worth considering.

Lae has closed this thread but it wouldn't hurt to offer some help. Try this website to check how much power your PC needs, might help you a little bit.
