The words "autoaim"and "balance" have no place in a PC FPS review. This whole crossplatform idea isn't going to work for me. Is this what MS is going to be doing for every Live game? If that's true, I will not support these games. If I wanted a console experience, I would play my consoles. I like my PC shooters for a reason. I'm sure I'm not the only PC Gamer to feel this way.

From GS review:

"Rather than limit auto-aim to just the 360 or to controller users, as the Vista version of Halo 2 did, Shadowrun gives a little bit of it to everyone, which is, of course, pumped up with the addition of the SmartLink ability. This might frustrate PC mouse-and-keyboard users, as it feels like your aim is being taken out of your hands a bit; and if you've been playing PC shooters with any regularity, you probably don't need the help. But regardless of how weird it can feel, it does at least feel balanced.

Ouch! Sounds like they mostly dinged it for being and feeling like an incomplete game rather than for the controls, though.

The controls aren't really gimped, you have an option of purchasing an "aiming enhancer" which is uneccessary if you good with your mouse, at least its not enhanced for controllers by default.

I really like this game but I do tend to agree with the review that there aren't enough maps and half the games I've played have ended by one team killing the other team despite whatever the game mode is.  I'll get a good bunch of hours out of it but doubt I'll pay for LIVE gold.

Yeah, it looks like the content was the major determining factor with the game's score. I also like my games to feel and play like counterstrike, as I think it controls perfectly. Even subtle tweaks are a no no for any PC FPS imo though.

"... it does at least feel balanced." I don't see what the problem here is. If it's balanced, why not? Sure, I'd like to see a "no holds barred" 360 vs PC game, but I'm sure that type of gameplay would alienate some players. I believe Shadowrun handled the cross platform play the best, especially considering this was the first game to ever do this (I think at least). Besides, you don't have to buy the SmartLink ability...

The problem is that they chose to GIMP the PC version in order to MAKE it balanced for cross-platorm competition with the Xbox360 controller users...

Eh, no.  The only reason it got a bad score was because your paying full for half of a game.  There are only 9 maps, very basic game modes, and 3 of the maps are just smaller versions of the same map.  Not to mention rather basic mishaps (no animations for ladder walking, every race looks identical, ect).

It mentions the controlls once in the review, and then goes as far as too say they actually feel smoother and more balanced than what Halo 2 did.  So what exactly is the major problem with controlls here again?

As far as I'm concerned, any game that alters the mouse movement, is gimping. I like my PC shooters the way they are so I'm opposed to altering control schemes to make another group feel comfortable when playing. I think crossplatoform FPS is a lousy idea to begin with.

If I want to play a console shooter, I'll turn on my flippin 360. What I don't need is a MS studio toying with the M/K setup.

where does the skill come from if all users get autoaim? FPS games are about skill, now if this is an rpg game about combos and not skill then I don't want to touch it.

WTF is wrong with some of you? You don't see what the problem is? Do you even play PC games? No FPS should ever use an inaccurate reticule and autoaim as a means to degrade Mouse accuracy to appease console gamers. This is the type of Crap MS would try, no wonder the game sucks. Yes, the content or lack thereof is a majoe reason for the poor reviews, but don't pretend the controls were not a factor, no FPS PC gamer would want to play a FPS whoe controls respond like a stick on a controller. PC FPS gamers like playing FPS's ona  PC for a reason.

spiltmilk, I couldn't agree with you more. It's actually scary that more people aren't up in arms. I see this as a blatant attempt by MS to  condition people.  I hope not to many first time PC Gamers come away from this game thinking this is what PC FPS is all about.

Well in a article which I will have to find, the company themselves said they just weren't going to fully optimize the mouse. Which in my book is gimping the controls. Like others have said, FPS cross-platform is a good idea in a perfect world, but its just not practical(mainly not fair) to gimp the PC users controls just to even it out for the consoles.

How on  earth are the controls gimped? You move the mouse and your reticle moves. You press wsad and your character moves. Feels just as responsive as any other fps too.

I tested out smartlinked too and i was suprised at how little it actually helped. So somebody with genuinely good aim will always beat somebody with bad aim and smartlink.

If you're gonna hate a game, hate it for the right reasons.

Well, look on the brightside: if they actually had stuck with the Shadowrun setting, you'd always have auto-aim enabled and every round you fired would hit if you had the Smartlink system installed...since Smartlink is an auto-aim feature.  And before you start hating on a game, why don't you actually try playing it.  Maybe, just maybe, the "auto-aim" that you're so up in arms about isn't noticeable.  So why don't you just wait for a demo, try it out, and then judge the game for yourselves.

Im with you buddy, all the way. auto aiming bullcrap MS isnt going to take consol FPS's away from us. Crysis, bioshock and ut3 wont be like that.

My god, you need your head checked. The controls do not ract like other shooters at all, there is autoaim, and they have made it so squick turns that usually are possible with a mouse are not as responsive as to not give an advantage. The aiming is not precise like other FPS. No other PC FPS has as bad response out of the mouse as Shadowrun. Get Real. You really have no idea what you are talking about.

Controls are an integral part of games, so how is that not criticizing it for the right reasons? Shadowrun makes the mouse respond like a stick on a controller, and if you are used to playing with m/k, you should be pissed. It is rediculous to dumb down the responsiveness of the m/k as that is what makes playing FPS on a PC so good.

This is not the first game to be cross platform from console and PC... I remember playing quake 3 on PC with dreamcast users...but quake 3 on dreamcast also supported mouse and keyboard... and you didn't have to pay monthly fee to play together either...

They didn't mess with the responsiveness, they messed with your aim if/when you spin/move fast. Ever play the old Rainbow Six games? Sort of like that. Really, I think they just did what they had to to make it balanced. It's like complaining about the UT minigun's secondary fire being inaccurate compared to the primary or something... it's just the way they made the guns in that game function. It's funny that you're arguing against a couple people that actually own the game about the controls. edit: do most of the people complaining about this just want easy kills so they can laugh at the 360 people or something? that's what happened with the dreamcast Q3A. if it's fair in the end by all accounts, i really don't understand what the problem is.

Anyone who posted in this thread and hasn't actually played the game has no clue what they are talking about.  This is seriously the best online FPS experience since CS/CSS.  I haven't had this much fun in years.  If you all wanna be stuck up snobs and miss out on this absolutely fantastic game go ahead, but in the meantimes I'll be having fun owning some 360 users.

Just got this achievement in Windows Live:

Mine Is The Superior Platform
Kill 100 players on the opposite platform.

This game is fun. They made it harder to aim (on both mouse and controller) to let you use other abilities so its not your typical every day run of the mill shooter. It's a heck of a lot of fun...hopefully they release some more maps.

edit: its still not hard to get your crosshairs on someone just like any fps, the guns are just less accurate...Â
