Does anybody but me care that Shadowrun comes out tomorrow for 360 and PC?  I played a bit on the 360 beta and I think this is the best shooter released to date.  Anyone with Vista should check it out.  You can play online with other PC players for free, or you can subscribe to Windows Live gold, pay like 360 users, and play online with them too.

If you've never heard about this game before and are interested, check out www.shadowrun.com

Oh, and no, it's not a proper Shadowrun mythos game.  It's sort of a FPS prequel to the RPG games.

To explain how it plays for someone who has no clue...It's almost like Counterstrike with the WC3 mod.  You have magic, tech, and guns, and can mix and match on different races to come up with some pretty awesome stuff.

Check it out folks, I'll see you online!

Soon this thread will be filled with "Vista Sucks" and Xbox 360" sucks posts. Watch and see.

A friend of mines was in the beta and he did say the game was great. I will definitely check it out but more than likely for the PC.

Yeah, I'm sure you are right.  I expected my thread to be filled with immature B.S.  Their loss though.  Shadowrun is an absolutely amazing game with more strategy than any FPS since CS first arrived on the scene.

I think most hermits wont buy it because we dont want to pay for online. If this vista live thing a success. MS will soon make us pay for online. Also there are gimped controlls for PC. When playing online. Can you say lame. Hermits dont buy the game. MS is just trying to get even more money out of us. We shouldnt have to pay for online.

The real reason I will not play this game is because the original was an awesome console RPG that was resurrected 14 years later and turned into a dumbed down multiplatform FPS. Had it been an RPG for the PC only, I would be the first to buy it.

I agree. The only way I'd buy it is for my Xbox 360, since I don't want to upgrade to Vista yet. It'd be fun playing PC vs 360, but I doubt this game will be popular enough for that to happen in its truest form. Hopefully this game really is good.. . although it seems like hype is nonexistant, and therefore the game will have a short life span, since it is online only and the longevity of the game depends on how many people are online.

Now now, educate yourself before you go bonkers.  You only have to pay if you want to play with 360 users.  Play between PC users if free (basic online play like other shooters.

Again, another misunderstanding.  This is the events before any of the intricacies of the RPG games.  This is right when the crap hit the fan before anyone really knew what was going on.  It's almost like a prequel to the RPG games.  The lore isn't fleshed out yet.  It's there.  Read the back story at the site.  It fits in the timeline pre-dating what happened in the RPGs.

Playing with the 360 users should be free. Considering you're upgrading to Vista just to be able to play the game. That's like buying 3-4 years worth of live. Also the way they gimped the controls as noted above just shows there is no true Xbox 360 vs PC capability. The 360 users would get obliterated by the hard-core FPS gamers. Well that's if they would even show up. Which I doubt they will do.

In conclusion if Shadowrun was 2000/XP enabled, free for 360 users, greatly optimizable to run on pentium 4 and amd athlon xp's, then they would have something. Right now what you have is squeezing money out of the consumer. No one smart enough is going to fall for it, I sincerely hope it bombs.

Upgraded to Vista just to play the game?  How about upgraded to Vista because it's the next MS OS and will be mandatory in a few years, so why not upgrade now?  I upgraded day one.  The fact that they are making inter-platform games is just bonus awesomeness.

And again, you display ignorance.  It's not milking anything.  This game is for people who already have Vista and want to play the best FPS to date.  You don't have to pay an extra cent to play against other PC users.

This game is not Deus Ex. It is not really an RPG shooter, you can just buy magic, tech, and weapons to use and you can choose your race. It sounds like more of a thinking mans FPS but I wouldn't say it is in anyway an RPG.

Also, I believe Vista owners can play with 360 owners for free but need to pay to do things like invite friends to a game etc. And if you already have gold for the 360 you will have gold on vista, if you pay for gold on vista and get a 360 you will have gold on that as well.

As for Vista being mandatory, that's just putting your own words in your mouth. Vista is not mandatory for anyone. Corporations use 2000 because it's more stable. Advanced users can use Linux because they want to. MAC OS X rips Vista a new one, considering there's 1 version unlike Vista (there's like 5+) and you get everything included. No trial software or the other crap.

As for the best FPS to date, it's not even released. It has to run over Half Life 2, Deus Ex, Halo, and a plethora of other games which it will surely not do.

How bout you realize upgrading to Vista is not mandatory. How bout you admit you work for them.

Again, what an ignorant reason to NOT play a great game. Just because it has Shadowrun slapped on it does not diminish how freaking awesome of an FPS this is. If you want to be silly and not play it because of its skin, go ahead. Your loss.

There's only one good reason to use a pre-existing franchise, and that is to attract the pre-existing fanbase.  So why even put the Shadowrun name on an FPS?  Why not just create a new IP?  Did they expect all the people that played the Shadowrun table top game and console RPGs to look at it and say, "WOWZ ITZ GOT DA SHADOWRUN NAME, LEZ BUY IT!!!!"  Talk about trying to catch a mouse with broccoli.

How about you realize that you are jumping to conclusions and have no clue what you are talking about.

I'm defending the awesomeness of a GAME not of MICROSOFT.  I also never stated that Vista was mandatory.  It will, however, follow the footsteps of every other MS OS.  What that means is that within 3 years the bulk of PC users will own Vista, and the gaming community will focus almost primarily on Vista, with very little chance of backward compatibility.  The primary reason for this is Directx 10.  Since MS is not supporting DX 10 in XP due to the new arcitecture, XP's gaming community will rapidly fall off the map.

Once games using the new CryEngine and Unreal 3 engine come out and look brilliant compared to outdated DX9 engines, people will flock to Vista like its the best thing since sliced bread.

Games like Shadowrun are bonuses for us Early Adopters, and fun toys for people like me who want to pioneer PC-Console compatibility and competition.

If you don't like it, that's fine, don't participate, but you don't have to come into my thread bashing the technology and talking about things like you have a clue, when you clearly don't.  Sometimes uneducated opinions are better kept to one's self.

Alright, fine.  I agree that having the opinion that it is unappealing to form an FPS over an exisiting franshise for no other reason than to attract extra fans is a legitimate opinion.  In fact, I suppose I agree with that, but I don't think of it that way.  I see FASA opening to door to new Generations of kids who have never even heard of Shadowun before.  This game will at least "put it on the map", and so when the next real RPG installment is released, these new fans will at least be interested, if for no other reason than the FPS.  You see it pessimistically, and I see it optomistically.  Fair enough?

ParkCarsHere

Again, this is a misunderstanding, for the most part.  The only dumbing down that has occurred is something that is already in many PC FPS.  Basically, the bloom of the crosshair increases the faster you turn, which briefly lowers the accuracy of your shots.  Yes, this was implemented to keep PC players from doing a spinning 180 and headshotting a 360 user, which they obviously cannot do, but games like Rainbow 6 use this as well for accuracy reasons.  Think about it, if you spin around in a circle and start firing, you are going to be briefly off aim too.

This "problem" has been extremely blown out of preportion by people who have never played the game though.  GIve it a chance, I think you'll find that it's fair and NOT annoying.

Shadowrun should of been DX 9 with 2000/XP/Vista. To marginalize your user base and force them to upgrade to play your new game is just stupid. That's why Half Life, Diablo, Warcraft, etc are so successful. Probably over 50% of the people who pick up the box at the retail store can run the game.

Microsoft needs to be more smart if they truly want to capture the PC gaming market. As for the whole Xbox 360 vs PC competitoin that is interesting. The way I see it Vista should only be one version and include everything. Also it might as well come bundled with Halo 2. That's how you sell an OS. That's how you make people want to upgrade. That's how I would run that baby.

I would definately buy this game if it wasnt Vista-only (it is Vista only, right?).  It seems like it has a really cool premise and the mix of the two genres is always good.

Simechak

You make a good point.  Perhaps this is FASA making a bid at reestablishing its name in the gaming world before trying to develop a more risky project like a cRPG.

Dumbing down the PC so that the 360 gamers can "compete"? I wanted a real PC vs 360 game, but apparently this isn't it.

Simechak

I get you and sorry if I offended you. To be more honest I really like some of the screenshots. Perhaps when I get a new computer with Vista on it I will try it out. They should be releasing a demo though, that's how you sell more games. The beta came and went and a lot of people missed out. I'm going to check out some videos and it's all your fault. >-=/

Again, what an ignorant reason to NOT play a great game. Just because it has Shadowrun slapped on it does not diminish how freaking awesome of an FPS this is. If you want to be silly and not play it because of its skin, go ahead. Your loss.

Simechak

There's only one good reason to use a pre-existing franchise, and that is to attract the pre-existing fanbase.  So why even put the Shadowrun name on an FPS?  Why not just create a new IP?  Did they expect all the people that played the Shadowrun table top game and console RPGs to look at it and say, "WOWZ ITZ GOT DA SHADOWRUN NAME, LEZ BUY IT!!!!"  Talk about trying to catch a mouse with broccoli.

Coming soon to a store near you:  Starcraft the puzzle game!  It's like Dr. Mario, except instead of red, blue, and yellow pills, it's protoss, zerg, and terran shaped blocks.

Ya, I never heard of SHadowrun either and I got excited for this game but then I Just found out that its Vista only.  Way to go MS...I wonder how big the PC-only multiplayer will be.

Unstoppable_1

I don't think it's Vista only because they want to force anyone to upgrade to vista. Windows Live is for Vista only and from what i read Live and cross platform wouldn't be possible with XP. Basically if you don't have vista I am sure you will end up having it eventually.

Many people have already upgraded so I am sure the PC community will be decent.

That might result in creating two different games. Sonner or later games will be Vista only...it's bound to happen. IF you don't have it now you will in the future.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Shadowrun is a first person shooter introducing mild cyberpunk elements to the gameplay. The game takes place in Brazil in the year 2031: before the events that shaped the Shadowrun universe.

The player will choose from two factions to play as, the megacorp RNA Global and the resistance group known as The Lineage. Playable races are Human, elf, Troll, and Dwarf. Each race has their own racial traits.

Players will purchase magic, tech, and weapons in between each round of play. Magic will include teleportation, resurrection, and a castable tree of life that will slowly heal any players that stand near it, turning into smoke for invulnerability, summoning a monster to do your bidding, casting a field of lethal crystals, and blowing a powerful gust at enemies and objects. Purchasable tech items include enhanced vision, which allows the player to see through walls, a glider, which enables short distance flight, wired reflexes, which greatly increases your physical attributes, anti-magic generators, Smartlink, which gives you greater accuracy and other specific advantages. Weapons include a sniper rifle, SMG, a shotgun, a minigun, a semi auto rifle, a rocket launcher, and a katana for assassinations and ninja ****tactics.

From wikipedia.org. Sounds like fun. =D What are sys reqs besides vista =/?

See this is the crap i'm talking about. No where on the official website are the system requirements. That takes what 5-15 minutes to post. This is what I got from a post on Amazon.

Dual core PC with a nice video card and Vista and at least 2GB of ram. That took me about 1 minute to post =O.

I just think you are thinking backwards.  I don't think the point of this game is to get people to upgrade.  I think this is the first in a long line of games FOR the people who already have, and to help convince those that will be perpertually on the fence that there are better games on the other side.  If MS wants to risk having crappy sales on a few generations of games to get Vista gaming going, that's their call.

The demo comes out in about two weeks.  I'll try to check the exact date.

The way FASA puts it:  If you PC is good enough to run vista, it can run this game.
