What kind of monitor is it? LCD/CRT? Does it have a glass, plastic, matte/glossy screen? Or what?

Sharpie ink is alcohol based. Rubbing alcohol will take it off glass. If it's plastic you may be sol.

NO!!! Rubbing alcohol burns plastic. It'll make the screen permanently cloudy! I saw some stuff that came out late last year that might be safe to use. It's HSO, or S20, or something like that. I forget the exact name, but you may be able to find it on google...

I've never heard of isopropyl alcohol "burning" plastic but I have heard that sharpie ink can penetrate deep into some plastics to the point that lightly wiping with alcohol will not remove all the ink. If the surface of the monitor is plastic I recommend you test with a cotton swab before wiping the whole surface.

It depends on how sensitive the plastic is. Plastic is made out of oil and oil can be dissolved by rubbing alcohol.
