I read thatshattered horizon didn't sell all that well. The reason i havent bought it was because I am still on Xp,and the game doesnt have DX9 support.Do you think this was one of the reasons the game didnt sell to well?

Probably had more to due with the fact it has almost zero content. I'm sure the lack of DX9 support hurt them a bit.

Definitely light on content.. first free expansion thing is coming soon, with four new maps though. I'll start playing it again at that time, I think :)

Multiplayer only, Steam only, Vista/7 only game with ridiculously high system requirements, not a lot of content and practically zero advertising doesn't sell that well? How surprising.

Yeah.. Futuremark could have had a really cool thing if they'd fleshed a real game out of it. It's not a good idea to do DX10-only right now either. IDK about most people, but I'm not likely to buy a game that has no single-player either.

Yep I think we can say Shattered Horizons is a perfect example of what you SHOULDN'T do if you want to make any money out of your game. It was truly moronic to make this Dx10 only (and for the life of me I don't know why it is). The graphics are nothing special but it needs incredibly beefy requirements to run this at a decent frame rate.

Then as others mentioned there is pretty much sod all to actually do in the game, it has a limited number of maps, sod all guns and just no variety whatsoever. The only thing they did get right was the price at launch which was £19.99 but I would say it didn't even have enough content to justify that price.

I did buy a copy myself I got it during the steam sales when it was a fiver or something I fired it up once and tried to do an MP session but it just got so boring so quickly. I just felt "I should be playing something better than this".

It was developed as an interactive benchmark, do people care about benchmarks much? nope, not really. It's a pretty different "game", but calling it a game is a little far fetched, even the free physx demonstration "benchmark", Cellfactor is more of a game than Shattered Horizon, it lacks content, it barely has any.

This isn't really a game that you buy because it's good, it's more of a game that you buy to test your graphics card and to try something different for a few hours at most, but yeah, zero content, multiplayer only, and it having "benchmark" requirements (dedicated OS -DX10, Vista/7) made it a failure sales wise.

The only thing stopping me and a bunch of my friends from buying it is actually the lack of content more than DX10 itself. Obviously the ridiculous requirements are directly responsible for having low sells, especially concerning a lot of people are still using Windows XP. It's one of those games that should have came out in 2 years, when both Vista and Windows 7 more specifically have pierced through.

I really like the direction they took perspective wise and in my opinion is one of the most fresh and unique take on first person shooters in recent years along Mirror's Edge but just like this one it's only halfway to become a great game. I've been wanting to try it ever since i saw the first trailers but i'm always getting stopped by the fact there is only a single weapon, oh so many maps, no single player and a low population multiplayer.

It seems to me, it's one of those game with enormous potential that didn't get realized. I can only imagine what they could have done backed up by a big publisher with more budget or even with better design. Something along the line of a Battlefield game but set in the perspective of shattered horizon would make my jaw drop right away and shell out a $50 without question.

There was zero marketing for the game. The only reason I know about it is because of this forum, and I have to say it does look fun.

You make a good point. The game is cool as-is, but as a fully fledged $50 game, it could've been .... awesome. Team-based space shooter with classes, maybe a vehicle or two.. would've been unreal. Larger levels with more stuff to them. It would've been a slap to the face of current modern-warfare marketing, and just totally awesome in general.

I like space.

I think it had alot to do with it only being on vista. Sure alot of people have moved to vista or windows7, but there still is a good amount on XP.

IMO Horizon and Shadowrun where two really good gams but they where only ony a certain OS.

I think once more people have moved to Windows7 it will sell more and games in teh future that are only for Vista or W7 will sell better.

The game is fun though! Just a little short on content. I will buy it soon myself, tried it on my friends pc and also just got windows7 at xmas.

lack of advertising, dx10 only and high requirements all contributed. I'm one of the few who bought it and don't regret it had alot of fun playing it and got 45 hours out of it according to xfire. I really hope future mark decides to do a sequel and learns from this experience to make the second game superior in every way.
