Should Hyperthreading be turned Off ?

My HTPC/Nettop - is fitted with an ATOM 330 1.6ghzprocessor and an ATI 4330.

This unit has - of course - Hyperthreading. I can't decide if by keeping it on or off helps at all with graphics?

My logic is - if H/T is activated, then it basically cuts that core's speed and resources in half - waht do you think?

And if H/T is off - should it actually improve graphics - say for, HD movies and so forth. Again, like I said - I can't really tell the difference one way or the otehr if it's turned on or off??

Well on an atom processor you might want slightly higher performance and Hyperthreading could improve multitasking on the computer as it emulates virtual cores it might be worth doing it, doubt it could hurt it was alright on my pentium 4 HT

Yeah - not much gaming. I have tried of course. COD4, 5, 6 - are just too sloppy. I think the Graphics card would support it okay - - but the CPU is very limited. Even if the CPU were clocked to 2.0ghz - I couldn't see that doing a whole lot though...Might clear up the HD movies a tad though.

Maybe Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 will play??

I was just looking up benchmarks of the Atom CPU's vs. Pentum 4 2.66ghz/M

Was interesting how - the Atom wins out every test from Video decoding, power consumption and Compression - and a large win at that,,

But, when faced with 3d graphics such as 3Dmark and WOW - etc . . The Pentium 4/M almost doubled the Atom's capabilities.

And how old is the P-4/M ??

Pentium 4 HT is pretty old now pre 2005 at least a very good non duel core processor though
