i have a hd 5870 (900/1300) and thinking to go with a gtx 580 now i only want ask that should i really need to upgrade from my hd 5870 to a gtx 580 or wait for next 28 nm gpus from amd and nvidia........ i play at 1920x1080
The GTX 580 is hands down more powerful than the 5870. But, I recommend waiting a couple of months before buying the 580. It is rumored that AMD's 7000 series will be coming out in Sep/Oct time frame and the rumor is that Nvidia won't release Keplar until early 2012 (with a possible limited supply release in Nov/Dec this year). The 5870 still has enough power to run games at or near max settings. Of course if you want the 580 then go ahead and get it.

I'm sorry to sound retarded, but I noticed in your sig you had a 470 on PhysX. Is that all it does? Are you able to use both the cards in combination with other games without PhysX for higher frame rates?

It is just for PhysX so it won't be used unless a game uses PhysX. I am just playing with the 470 as a PhysX card at the moment as I plan on selling it. In order for for you to use multiple cards in SLI (Nvidia) they have to be the same gpu. They can be from different manufactures and/or OC'ed but the gpu has to be the same. With Crossfire (AMD) the cards have to be from the same family (you can crossfire a 6970 and a 6950 but not a 6970 and a 6870).
I don't think it's worth upgrading yet. I was also thinking of switching to a 580 from my 295 but came to the conclusion that it's just not worth the money.

I upgraded from 5870 crossfire to gtx 580 sli and guess what Im not happy. send your 5870's crossfire to me. I sure could use those over my 5770Sold those for $400.
I have a 5870 myself, and I see no reason to upgrade at this point. I don't think the performance boost is worth the price right now, but maybe I'll consider upgrading in the next gen of GPU's.
I recently upgraded to a GTX 580 (Gigabyte SOC version) from a GTX 480. Performance difference is negligable but the power and heat difference is very noticable, and heat was really the only reason i did it. Since heat is certainly not an issue with Radeon 5870's, you definitely want to go with the majority here and not bother. It'll be a long old time before the 5870 really struggleswith any title at 1920x1080...
nope not worth it. How much did you pay for your 5870? You will be losing alot of money by "upgrading" to a card for no reason other than just to say you have it.
