next are i3 and i5, they'll all be together, i3 is low end, i5 is mid range, i7 is high end. so they will be good intels for a while. however, the evergreen AMD graphic cards are coming soon, so possibly some evergreen cpus.... idk, i'd probably not.

I wondered that myself with reports that i7 will be phased out. I think they are false though and i7 should stick around, especially with the heptacore CPU's coming out.

There will be new i7s out but with different sockets then the ones on the market now.. Intel is also working on the i9s(6 cores) which should come out early next year. i9s use the same socket as current i7s.

Intel will be releasing new processors every 2 years until 2018. So just upgrade whenever, there will always be something better around the corner.

The new CPU's will be i3 and i5 with the new socket, they aren't i7's. Intel is also working on the i9s(6 cores) which should come out early next year. i9s use the same socket as current i7s.

The heptacore (6 core) cpu is i7 as well, not i9. There will always be something better coming out in the future for the money, but the question is, how long will that be since Intel is downscaling their CPU's for the next year? Core i7 920 doesn't look to bad for at least a couple of years to me.

Not worth it..................yet, by the time it might be it will be cheaper anyway so i say just wait. I5 is proving to be as fast in most things with just 4 Cores and no HT since multi-threading isn't really taken advantage of by most software. I think we will be fine with a Core 2 system for another year +, by that time we'll have the new 32nm CPUs, maybe 6 or 8 cores.

Actually it's 2022. Right now were on 32nm chips with nehalem and the plan is to be on 4nm chips by 2022. What comes after that? I guess only time will tell ;)

4nm? WTF. That would be insane. By 2022 we will have projecter powered computers.
