I want a new game, and I'm interested in something with epic gameplay and high replay value.

Which one does it better?

Depends on your vision of epic gameplay. DA:O is closer to the old school style RPG's in terms of gameplay, slower paced and more tactical with more emphasis put on proper character development than anything. Mass Effect is quicker and more action oriented similar to that of a FPS or traditional hack and slash. DA:O honestly doesn't have much in the way of replay value sadly, the choices you can make ultimately amount to zero significance and the various Origins really only create slight variations. I tried giving it a second run through and quit half way through, despite trying almost everything differently it all felt the exact same. Mass Effect 2 from what I understand also lacks in replay value, haven't played it personally. I'd say DA:O, solid game with a good story and great cast of characters.

Same here as well, I quit Mass Effect about 15 hours into game. The progression pace is just too slow for me.

Never played any Mass Effect but I can vouch for DA:O's epicness. Plus It has a pretty nice toolset (playing with it atm) so if it gets a good community of modders and designers, writers etc to the tune of what Neverwinter Nights has, you may even see some well-made user content. Maybe even from me.. who knows.

ME 2. It is way better than ME 1. The combat is like Gears of war, the Story is epic and I think that it has better graphics as well. Mind you do you prefer Sci-fi or fantasy?

Personally i found the progression to be pointless in terms of story and planets that you explore. It felt the scriptwriters were developing the story and situations as they went without anything noteworthy happening. As you said "the progression pace was just too slow" and you quited the game. On the other hand it gave me the feeling that there was no progress, nothing impressive or noteworthy happening to keep me playing and i pushed myself to complete the game and after 25 hours, all i got to say is that i want my time back. Nothing impressive happened. I wouldnt reccomend you giving the game another shot because there is no point that it starts to feel "epic" not even in the end.

If you played Mass Effect 1, then i'd go with Mass Effect 2 indefinitely. Otherwise, I would go with Dragon Age Origins.

Or get both. That is my answer most of the time if I have problem what games to buy. To me the both games are exelent. ME 1 had some crappy things but the whole story is solid and the continum is kind of epic. Again i wouldn't choose one from the other.

Well, you can get ME on the cheap, and then decide between DA:O or ME2. It is not necessarily fair to compare games that came out 2 years from each other.

Mass Effect 2 is a 35 hour game at most. Dragon Age is twice that or more just with the first game and then the expansion adds like 20-25 more hours. So theres your answer. You can get Dragon Age for relatively cheap now a days.

Well, you have to ask yourself, do you like a Sci-Fi Shooter or a Fantasy game? Personally, I would go for both. Buy one game first, beat it. Then get the other one. I bought ME2 on launch and it became my favorite console game this gen (360). And I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins right now on my PC and it seems to be really good. I can't just play one.

ME is the better game.millerlight89

Thank you for speaking some truth so many people are such hardcore fantasy dudes they jsut rage about mass effect 2 not being super tedious and frustrating, and, they rage about not having to constantly pause the game to issue commands to people. Dragon age was great but mass effeect 2 was really the better game. It may have had less traditional rpg elements to it but honestly if you made mass effect with the same mechanics as dragon age it would be a pretty stale game. The more focus on action and gunplay really made the game waaay better. Its about space and epic galatic battles and the fate of the galaxy in your hands. They wanted to make it feel that way, and wanted a non stop in your face sci-fi story. Plus they reference so many things from Baldur's Gate its funny. I mean Boo is in there, tali drone is called chitika fast paws. Mass effect 2 is biowares best game since Baldur's gate 2 and Kotor.

Well, it depends what you're more into. If you're more shooting and epic sci-fi, I would go with ME2. If you're more into old school RPG, I would go with DA:O.Both are excellent games but I prefer ME2. I'd recommend you browse here on gamespot, watch a couple trailers and decide which one you like more.

If you like complex long lasting games: DAO

If you like dumbed down console games: ME2

ME1 is phenomenal though.

Mass Effect 2 Dragon Age is a poorly written, derivative game with great combat. I couldn't get into DAO after finishing ME2.

Get DAO

ME2 is good, a lot better than ME1 but, it doesn't have much replay value. It's also short. You can finish the game and do every side quest on your first play through in around 40 hours.

ME 2 is the better game imo, I never actually managed to finish DA:O, I lasted for about 25 hours and gave up, it was too boring in the gnome city, but it would have more replay value than ME 2 which is why i voted for DA:O.

So far I can say that ME2 is the best one of both. I have been playing DAO and it has been boring for me but I have less that 2 hours of gameplay so I don't know if it will get better later. Let's put it this way, if you loved ME1 and got your save file then go with ME2 but if you haven't got it then go with DAO. Both are from Bioware so expect a quality game.

ME2 is a high intensity shooter-RPG hybrid

DA: origins is a traditional DnD-style RPG, though highly simplified.

Both are excellent games, however ME2's replayability is not half as good as ME1's imo.

Dragon Age definately has ME2 beat in both replayability and value...both are equal in fun and quality though, imo. I prefer DA:O personally.

I purchased both games, and like them both.

You'll enjoy ME2 more if you import a completed ME1 saved game - then ME2 plays like a true trilogy would. We shall see if Bioware does as well with DA:O 2, hopefully there will be both continuity and the capability to import an original DA:O saved game.

Dragon Age makes for a much superior RPG with how variable it is, although Mass Effect 2's plotline and setting is easily more interesting.

My vote goes to Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age: Origins has a bit more replay value than ME2, but it's gameplay was a little too hardcore for me. Mass Effect 2's gameplay is much easier, but still challenging and fun.

I got both and Dragon Age: Origins is the one gathering dust. :P

It depends what sort of game you're looking for. If you are looking for a pick up and play style of game then you are best off with ME2 It is much easier to get into. DA: O is a very traditional RPG if you are looking for something old school.

How the second is dumbed down but ME1 is phenomenal? What is so phenomenal about it? Its not even as good as kotor. Its very simple not only in gameplay but in story and content and level design.

Not anymore.. Have you played ME? If you have, get ME2, I cried at the ending because of the epicness.
