If you're getting it anyway, you might as well dual-boot the two, later down the line you can remove either XP or Vista if you don't want it.

With them specs id have it as secondary, Vista is very power hungry, uses around 750mb - 1gb at all times so without a ram upgrade it wouldnt really be worth it, but with a P4 id consider upgrading cpu and mobo and then adding more ram.

oh and make sure u get a 64bit cpu then u can get 64bit vista

I would not upgrade to 32 Bit. I had Vista 32 Bit for a while, and I absolutely hated it. But then I changed to Vista 64, and it's beautiful. The main perk about 64 is ability to have more than 3 gigs of ram, which is certainly helpful when running Vista. Granted, there are still bugs here and there, but I have been happy with x64 for months now.

I don't see how you can hate 32-bit Vista and love 64-bit Vista as it's exactly the same, functionality-wise.

Besides, it appears he doesn't have a 64-bit CPU.

With your specs, you should use XP. You shoud have a core-duo processer for Vista.

64-bit is pointless with 2gb of RAM, and Vista runs fine on 2GB.

You would be getting better performance on XP and the only advantage I see coming from Vista is DX10 for you, which is pretty useless.
