Why would you want to upgrade. By that I mean is there anything that's actually pushing your CPU to it's knees? Unless your running programs / games that are actually requiring more CPU power than your CPU can deliver there doesn't seem to be much reason?
The e8400 should be more than adequate for quite sometime, I wouldn't worry about upgrading unless you have a wad of cash that's burning a hole in your wallet and you want to have the very top of the line. If you really want to, i'd say wait six months for the new i7 to drop in price. Of course you're probably going to have to buy a new motherboard and some ddr3 ram to go along with it, so yeah. I was actually thinking about upgrading to an e8400 later this month, I have an older conroe that needs to be retired.

First of all your processor is still quite good. Also you should know that intel has said they will use a new socket for their next generation cpu's so you would be best off waiting since you will have to buy a new mother board and cpu going into the future.
The E8400 is better than good. If you overclock your CPU, it will last you many, many months from now. Even at stock processor speed, it does a fine job for most games. I walked into this thread, expectng E2100 or something, or even E7***. E8400 should last you at least one year if not more. Or at least until games start utilizing Quad-Core technology.
