I ask you people should PC gamers unite and make something similiar to working sindicate ? Because today Gamers suffers more then anybody. Just lets take Arena Net behavior. Just watch Kripparrion video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UUeBMccz-PDZf6OB4aV6a3eA&v=OMTmBrwmjf0&feature=player_embedded , numerious examples from EA they buy really good frenchies and company and then they exploit gamers to buy their crap products,... jut take example of newest C&C products from EA 17th Aniversery of C&C 50 bucks for old mostly Westwood games. ....... And there are many many more examples !?

What rights are we supposed to have?

If you don't like a company's business practices, don't buy from them. Nobody forces you to play a game.

Ahh shucks. The self-entitled vocal minority that seems to be drawing a line to what rights they have even though there barely are any, at least outside of regional consumer protection. Good luck with the stance, I guess.Everybody else will probably just sit silent as they enjoy spending their spare time playing games.

Meh they're private companies, they just ruined classic franchises, it's all about marketing and money.

Just like nike turned converse into a cheapish quality overpriced footwear.

And what rights are we supossed to have? I'd vote for cold sprite supply coming from a tube.

Those players violated the T&C either knowingly or unknowingly, and bought mismarked items in the bulk to gain a tremedous advantage over other players -- and in a PvP centric game, that's a big difference. But by signing the T&C to use their product, the end user agree that any and all access to the service is dictated by the entity it belongs to. So....children acting like children.

We have rights. The right to choose what we buy and what we don't buy. That's the only rights a gamer needs. It's time to start exercising those rights.

Thanks for spreading the word.

Some people didn't know about the existence of that right so they were buying every mainstream full priced year release helplessly

This is laughably pathetic. Everyone before me has covered the why pretty well. If anything, I think internet users with higher than a 4th grade education should unite to DEFEND proper spelling.

Some gamers *think* they have the right to dictate the content of someone else's work, but they're mistaken. I wish companies didn't buckle to their hollering.

EA is a great company and you should like their games. They've taken franchises like Battlefield, Command & Conquer, and the soon to be released SimCity and made them even better by removing boring single player content and adding social features(tm) that let you connect and share with your friends seamlessly!

And there's no reason to ever be bored with one of our fine games because we always offer new ways for you to give us your money. Say, for example, you want to give us your money while playing Mass Effect 3. No problem! Just purchase Bioware points with an approved credit card and you can unlock special gambling boxes that might give you something worthwhile!

The boring old days of just buying a game and playing it are over, that's for sure. Because EA is taking gaming into the future!

Lovely post... Are OP complaining that people got banned in a game for doing a exploit knowingly? They did not ban or temp ban people that bought 1-2 of these... There was alot of people that bought 100's of these items. In the video you linked he is say he dont understand why they did it. He bought it from their vendor... Its clearly not a exploit (even when he earlier in the video said "me and my friends was taking about this new exploit that gives you lots of gold and good gear for max level" So they CLEARLY knew they were exploiting and then get got banned... And then they cry. I just love the internet you read so many funny things. Its even funnier when people defend the people doing this. Well thanks for the laugh.

I watched the video, and I honestly can't believe these things are considered exploits. All people did was buy materials, craft things, and then sell them to the vendor. It is clearly within the game's functionality. There is no trick, there is no 3rd party hack or program. Why are players being punished for developer mistakes in balancing things? I'm so happy that I didn't spend money on this game. In the real world, this is just business. For example, furniture companies buy wood, build furniture with it, and then sell it for profit.

The perma-bans for buying certain items with karma points is an even bigger outrage. All people did, was see a weapon for sale, and they bought it. How can anyone justify that as an exploit? It just does not compute in my brain. I have been playing MMORPGs for 13 years, and never, ever did I fracking worry that I might get banned for simply walking up to a vendor, and spending currency to buy items there. If you guys call that an exploit, you have a lot of explaining to do.

I wasn't going to post cause that's how I think but I had to point out the vote. Not all of them can be sarcasm, can they?

The people who did it 10, 20 times are fine. The people who did it 100 times are the ones who were banned. I saw it, thought 'eh, that looks broken,' and didn't bother touching it. And honestly, I've got zero problem with it. The only real excuse people have is "we're used to being able to get away with this kind of thing," just like when ANet started temp-banning people for saying racist stuff in map chat or having ToS-breaking names. "But I've heard worse in Barrens chat," people say - as if that is something to STRIVE for? And if it was an honest mistake, they're willing to discuss it with you and make changes. They can easily look up the specifics of what has been done or said, and don't seem to hesitate to go to it. :) I loved the bit where one player in reddit said 'I must have bought over 600...' and their support team responded a moment later saying 'Yes - 646, to be exact.' DATABASES!

No, the excuse is, players are using in-game functionality. Seeing stuff that is cheap and buying it is a business opportunity, not an exploit. Players should not be responsible for knowing what are "fair" prices. Such a thing is totally subjective and open to debate. Let me provide some examples from past games.

I remember in the first months of Asheron's Call, the vendor rates for buying and selling varied widely from town to town. People would buy peerless lockpicks from one town, run for a few hours to another town, and make an easy 30% on their money. It took many months before Turbine fixed this bug. Nobody got banned, and nobody even lost the pyreals they made. When they started the gambling houses, they also messed up because you could buy the gambling tokens and sell them in a town for a big profit. They fixed that bug in a month, and also, nobody got banned for it.

Players shouldn't get banned for developers making stupid mistakes on the value of items. Players should be expected to use whatever advantage they can find within the functionality of the game.

Seeing something that is labeled as costing 23,000 and realizing it costs 23 is a great deal. Buying it again a couple times is pushing it. Buying it 100 times is taking it to a new level, and by then you're no longer in innocent 'I thought this was a great price' territory, and in 'I'm abusing this until they stop it.' Moreover, when said item is on the right between two other items - a lower level item that costs 2,000+ and a higher-level item that costs 60,000+... yeah. Trying to say you didn't realize it wasn't correct is just straight-up lying. Again, it's something that's generally only OK because we can generally get away with doing pretty much whatever we want in online games without any consequences in the past.

The best thing you can do is not buy games from companies you don't like. For profit companies really only care about their bottom line.

Makari, again, you are still ignoring the fact that all people did was go to a vendor, and buy things. No tricks, no third party programs or hacks. Arenanet responded by PERMANENTLY banning these people. We are talking thousands of players who spent $60 on this game just days prior. Now, I can understand if they downloaded some "Damn Cheaters" or "MMO Ninja" type hacking program, but all they did was buy stuff from a vendor. I cannot repeat that enough. A line has to be drawn somewhere in the way of exploiting and the type of punishment it deserves. Not everything that players do to get advantages in a game should be considered "exploiting". Some of these exploits, like the one in question here, are so easy to do, the blame needs to lay squarely on Arenanet's shoulders.

Thankfully, Arenanet came to their senses about the permabans. I'm still worried about what they are going to do next. Be careful around those in-game vendors guys. Those shady NPCs can cause some real damage to your account.

The line is drawn. I already told you intentionally using a bug is exploiting. You dont need 3rd party hacks to exploit a game(thats actually hacking, not exploiting). An item was supposed to cost 23,000. It cost 23 when bought. People knew it was a bug. People continued to use the bug, That is exploiting. You needed to buy the item thousands of times to get a permanent ban from the game.

Sheppard212

Those players violated the T&C either knowingly or unknowingly, and bought mismarked items in the bulk to gain a tremedous advantage over other players -- and in a PvP centric game, that's a big difference. But by signing the T&C to use their product, the end user agree that any and all access to the service is dictated by the entity it belongs to. So....children acting like children.

Forget the PvP centric game, it is an MMO. Think about how the economy would react and how literally everyone who didn't exploit would be screwed. I say good riddance and I applaud Arena Net. In fact, OP I have no idea why you even have Arena net in this discussion, they have done nothing but good for us.

Not to mention that these people didn't buy 50, they bought hundreds or thousands. They knew what they were doing, and I'm sorry but it is against the ToS. I am glad they are gone. Also, most of the people banned got it changed to a temporary ban.

What rights are we supposed to have?

If you don't like a company's business practices, don't buy from them. Nobody forces you to play a game.

I agree, not that hard not to buy a product.
