Recently got my computer set up to play games well enough.. But the few i have tried although good, were nothing fantastic. Mainly i am looking for games on an epic scale like the total war series. Prefare modern/future type of combat game as i already have the total war games to keep me satisfied for past RTS games.

I picked up Dawn of War2 and World in Conflict. Was already playing the first dawn of war so i was expecting a more improved version of the first with a bigger scale, I enjoyed it.. but never had me itching for more like other games have.

I was reading reviews about sins of a solar empire which was getting high praise for its scale.. looking at vids now but feedback from people that have played it would be nice :) Supreme commander also looks to be a good scale of game but i was reading that it is difficult to run on the most powerful of machines so how would it run on mine.

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600

3gb DDR2 RAM

Nvidia 512mb 9800GTX+

But please let me know if there is any games i am over looking. Thanks.

Are you only looking for RTS games? if so i can't really help you. But Mount & Blade is one heck of a amazing game. One of the best i've played, graphics may be outdated but it has a mix of rts/action so i have a feeling your like it. It's defintley epic commanding your army of 100+

If just epic games in general then there is quite a few! the most epic recent game i would suggest is The Witcher. Mass Effect & Elder scrolls IV are also epic :)

I can see your a fan :P Honestly everything :D mainly is it comparible to any kind of game style, like Total war.. by the looks it seems quite similar to it but only in space. And by that i mean lots of micro-management of planets (settlements in total war) split with big, nice battles. Are the reviews true.. will i be absorbed into the game? i am a long term fan of the total war game, and love spending hours on end managing and expanded an empire. Basically how would you explain the game and is there anything, even if slight, you can compare to other games.

Your rig will run Supreme Commander just fine, probably max or close to it. And it is a pretty epic large scale game. It is a pretty slow paced game in the beginning, if you are skirmishing the computer make sure you are able to change the speed of the game (its an option when setting up the map) sometimes you need to crank the speed all the way up because building can take awhile, but then turn it down to micro your units in a fight.

No, don't, seriously.

If you're looking for scale, Sins and SupCom will suit you. SupCom's the better of the two, IMO.

Good thing I'm also a big fan of TW.

SoaSE is a very different pace from TW. With TW, you're conquering territories and managing the populous with taxes, buildings, building structures in the territories, etc. You know what I mean. In SoaSE you conquer planets. There's not as much depth with planet development as there is with TW, but there is depth in it. The depth comes from the structures that you decide to build in the planet's gravity ring and the options of being able to either specialize a planet for some type of production or have it to be a trade planet. With TW, you have the Risk-like campaign map and you load into the battles. In SoaSE, the battles and "empire management" all happen in real-time. So you can zoom out completely from a battle to view all of the planets to go build some stuff on other planets, then zoom back into the battle.

The game starts off slow, so I suggest you play on fastest settings.

The demo is only 536 megs, I suggest you download it:http://www.filefront.com/9861753/Sins-of-a-Solar-Empire-Demo/

If you want gameplay footage, I recorded three videos:

I would STILL recommend playing Homeworld 2 instead of Sins. Though both are great, Homeworld has an epic story and a deeper battle system.

i also recommend sins of solar empires. Is a bit difficult and it takes a bit long to master it, the maps ( even the small ones ) are taking at least 4-5 hours to complete them but the huge battles alone worth every second of your time invested on sins ( nothing more satisfying driving a 1000ship fleet from a wormhole into fighting the enemy ). On top of that the game has great graphics for what it matters

No one has recommended Mass Effect yet... I can't say I've played many of your games, but, understanding your preference for shooter-based combat, it might be up your alley. I enjoyed combat in Mass Effect less than the story and characters themselves, but it was nonetheless involving on harder difficulties with several strategic elements to consider for each battle.

SupCom is pretty awesome. HUGE scale. There is a second one in the works and it looks even better:

Mass Effect was recommended in the third post, and OP said he already played it.

You will easily be able to run Supcom. Empire:TW is much more demanding. I even played it with a 7300gs and AMD2.0Ghz x2 at one point.

Mount & Blade is one heck of a amazing game.

Kusimekaa

+1, Graphics are outdated but man is it addicting. You spend hours just fighting, gearing up yourself and companions, making money, lying siege to castles. There is also a HUGE modding community which makes that 100+ to 1000+ (even though genrally you can get armies like around 250 mark in vanilla). You can get mods for anything you desire - new units, new gear, new textures, full conversions (LORD OF THE RINGS, STAR WARS, DIFFERENT ERAS etc)

It is a very epic medieval game, one of the most epic NON RTS medieval games.

Epic games?.... Men of War. The definition of epic (and challenging) in a world war 2 strategy game.
