You could change the resolution of your desktop to 1024x768 boot up Sims change it to 1280x720 then change your desktop res to 1280x720.

It won't start when the game res is lower than your monitor res? PC specs please.

Also, how are you sure what resolution the game starts at by defualt if you can't get it to run? If anything, it should be easier for your PC to run if its playing at a lower res.

That really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The game should change the res of your monitor automatically. I doubt the resolution is the reason it's not starting.

sorry, but the res is the only reson its not starting, many have stated that the game by default boots at 1024x768 like many other games

You can force ur screen to 1024*768, if not using windows to, the nvidia control panel lets u force the screen to 1024*768, or force it to 800*600.

It won't matter the game doesn't have a 1280 x 720 option stupid EA. I usually play at that rez due to having a big display and playing from my bed so I can actually read the info on screen 1920 x 1080 is way to small from 4 feet away lol. But I am forced to play at a higher rez since its not an option in the game.

It is possible there is a compatibility problem with your specific graphics card. A lot of times games will add additional hardware support with their first patch. See if there is a patch for the game on the official website. If you have a super common super popular graphics card... then... this probably isn't the issue.

Holy crap!!! So this was why I couldn't get my system to run The Sims 3... My monitor's native resolution is also 1280x720. I thought that it was weird that my system aced the requirements needed to run The Sims, but kept getting an error message. I hope they can come up with a patch soon.. It's kinda unfair not mentioning the game won't run with a 720p monitor even if your system is up to par (or better) with the requirements... Buying a new monitor should NOT be the solution here.. Lol.

Isn't there any way to force the game to start at 1280x720? Like modifying the options.ini file or something like that?
