Can't single out one but I'd say D2 and its expansion are one of the best online games I ever played. Hope the new Diablo lives up to its name.

Id say any MMO that I've played, but more so WoW. Just cause I like the rpg game but playing with many other players feel. First person shooter, I would say Halo 2. I only recently started to play some pc games online so I couldn't give a fair judgment.

EVE Online, it's so complex and involved it doesn't even feel like a game from this generation, it's like a genre of its own. On the other hand, the disparity between players and the hands-off approach of the developers make this game about as balanced and fair as RL.

Can't say a best. But one of the most notable to me is the first Tribes. Pretty much a defining game; first online game I really got into at a young age, and it's design ethic has influenced me immensely. Then are many, many others; ranging from the Unreal Tournament series, to Counter Strike, Battlefield, Command and Conquer, Red Alert, Age of Empires, Left 4 Dead, EVE Online - the list is huge. Have played way to many online titles over the years.

Counter Strike and anything else by Valve.

As overhyped as it is you can't deny CODMW2 is pretty fire.

The first year of Asheron's Call. It had monthly updates, an ongoing story, live events, spells that you actually had to figure out and not just buy, it was more skill based than level based, and it also had a pretty good community to boot. Eventually, like all things I guess, it went down hill. The first year of SWG would be a very close second or maybe even tied.
