Well... it looks like it's not looking so great for the GF100 aka gtx 470/480 card from what I have been reading so far. So I think I'm just going to jump ship and either buy a second 260 gtx for about 150 or get a 5850/5870 for 300-400. Which would you rather do? I have a board that supports sli only. Taking all things into consideration... I am a little hesitant to buy the 5850 due to having to pay double. Can I even expect double performance?

GTX260 SLI will be faster than the ati cards you could get (and much cheaper). Does it really need to be asked?

I'd personally go with the 5870. performance wise these setups are neck and neck, there are games where the 5870 pulls ahead. Not only that, you're going to make the jump to DX11 which you're going to see in most if not all games coming out. Generally, you can match up a GTX260 sli setup as one GTX295 if you go strictly by the numbers. If you where to follow that, some games would be faster on the 5870, while others will be faster on the sli setup. However sticking with a single ATi card will get rid of any sli scaling issues you might run into and use less power (if that's a concern) Basically, you can get about 10-11 FPS more with a gtx 260 sli setup over the 5870... or you can get the 5870, have dx 11 and open up the possibility of a future second 5870 for an even better setup. Here's something to look at, mind you these are release drivers from when this chart was made, drivers have improved some for sure. http://www.madshrimps.be/vbulletin/f22/amd-radeon-hd-5870-hd-5850-performance-chart-66465/ http://img19.yfrog.com/img19/623/n7f.jpg Hope that helps :)

Do you really need to upgrade now? One 260 is pretty powerful already, and when it comes to upgrading never make unnecessary moves. I'd suggest waiting for Fermi's release, or a few more excellent looking DX11 games' announcements.

Well you might as well just SLI the 260. you already own one 260 - so you saving $. Second of all most of real performance killer apps out there run better with Nvidia. Crysis, I think is about 30-40 fps avg with 260 sli. You're not going to get any more performance than that with a 5870.

I doubt DX 11 will be worth shelling out money for this year or next. From what's been shown so far of tessellation (uniengine/stalker/AvP) hurts performance for little gain in visual, seems over-hyped imo - but maybe that will change in the future. But probably not for a long time. I mean games need to be built from ground up with tessellation in mind. you add tessellation to a few models here and there and you're not going to get much effect at all from it - unless the model was built very badly and was a blocky mess to start off with.current gen consoles are not supporting DX 10 properly let alone DX 11 so very few games will probably be built ground up with tessellation.

SLIing the 260's is your best bet for more preformance. However are you sure your board doesn't support Cross fire as usually sli supported MoBos support Crossfire too.

Well the reason I want to up my visual performance is I think I might start playing Age of Conan again. I was getting an average of 20-40fps with my current setup under DX10. Also what is this "grey" line I keep reading about for the ATi cards? Is that problem fixed?
