sli different GTX 580 3gb

hey guys, i have a i 7 3930k with asus rampage extreme IV. I want to sli my gigabyte GTX 580 3gb with another 3GB GTX 580. Is that possible or do i have to use another gigabyte 3gb Gtx 580?

 

And whatelse do i have to think of before doing this move? 

 

I have a H80 cooler on my processor. And a Fractal Define XL R2 with alot of fans and space inside

 

32 gb vengeance 1600 mhz.

So long as it's another 3 GB it will be fine (a 1.5 GB will not SLI with a 3 GB).

Make sure your PSU can handle it.

So long as it's another 3 GB it will be fine (a 1.5 GB will not SLI with a 3 GB).

Make sure your PSU can handle it.

My understanding is that a 1.5GB card will work in SLI with a 3GB card, but that the 3GB card will be treated as a 1.5GB, so it's a waste.  That's how it worked with prior generations of Nvidia cards.

Well I'm not entirely certain because I've never tried it, but I have heard that it now requires a minor hack just to do that.
