I recently played Mass effect 2.. twice & found it to be an amazing experience! ..though I never played Mass effect 1. My question is would Mass effect 1 be enjoyable if I play now ? as I've already finished the second game in the series. How is the first game compared to it's sequel. not talking abt graphics. just the combat etc.

I would say yes, it is worth playing. You can pick it up on Steam for only 20 bucks. There are some annoyances in the original like longish load times and inventory management, but the story is just as good and the gameplay is as well, the combat is better in ME2, but not a huge difference. You can also then import your character from ME1 into ME2 and all your decisions carry over. Unless you imported a previously generated save from the Mass Effect Saves Database you are missing out on all the paragon story options in ME2, since it assumes your major decisions in the first game were all renegade (Wrex dead, rachni queen dead, council dead, Udina councilman, and many other).

I would say yes. But why did you play 2 without 1, despite the fact that 2 is a direct sequel of the first???

Mass Effect 2 got hyped way more than the original. A good number of people probably joined the series without playing the first game.

The combat isn't as good, and the characters are a lot less interesting, but the first game has a stronger story and some really cool moments. I'd say that it's still worth checking out.

I have just replayed ME1 after finishing ME2.

It's is a great game in it's own right so so i recommend you get it, especially as it will fill in a lot of the story you missed.

I'm actually thinking about starting a new character and running through both games again now the LotSB is out. Which is awesome btw.

That's cause I've never been into action role playing games, only shooters. Though combat in Mass Effect 2's free demo seemed alot of fun. Much enjoyable than many shooters I'd played. So I got that game straight away. After playing it twice I feel it's one of the best games I've ever played. & yea now I also feel I should've checked out the first game before playing the sequel.. so I could understand the story better. Nvm I'll still give it a go.. also gonna play ME 2 again once I've finished the first one. Thanks guys.

Yeah, I never get people who play a second part before the first part... Or watch a sequel movie before watching Part 1.... Or reading a book, before reading the one before it.... etc etc...

i just couldn't finish the original ME, the combat system drove me nuts as did the dialog and repetitive areas, ME2 on the other hand is a class above it's predecessor, i would find it hard to go back to the first, especially after the vast improvements made on it.

Mass Effect was a 360 game that was given a decent port by a third party. There is, as far as I know, no demo. Mass Effect 2 was a PC and 360 game. There is a PC demo.
