Just got it today and,...well, I don't have much to say except that I got super bored after an hour and never want to play it again. Its like a children's fallout 3. I feel like the game is the generic version of fallout 3. And I have a 9800 GTX+ and all my games run fine, except for this. And don't say its the card b/c its not. I can't have any of the goodies on, only textures, or else it chunks up.

Agreed, I'm tired of seeing people compare the two. They're not even remotely similar...using Fallout 3 as a game to compare with Borderlands is auto-fail. This game is more in-line with Diablo and Hellgate, and even that doesn't really describe what type of game it is. There aren't any games out there (that I know of) with proper FPS mechanics and action-RPG elements like this game has.

I'm really enjoying it so far, I was expecting it to be more shooter like but it as some really strong RPG elements so far which I like, and like some have said before, it isn't much like FO3, more like Diablo.

I just booted it up for the first time, and it ran amazingly well with all the goodies on, 8xAf, 4xAA (forced through nhancer) on my 9800GT core2duo setup. You might have something wrong with your computer if you cant run this game well.

These are my very first impressions, but so far the combat seems to be vastly superior to that in Fallout 3. Even if the enemy AI isn't great, the weapons feel amazing, which is more than what the weapons on Fallout 3 offer.

Fallout 3 is a RPG with shooter elements

Borderlands is a Shooter with RPG elements

I'm not saying one is better than the other, i'm just saying that they are not trying to be the same thing.

Don't give up on this game yet! I had the same experience when I first started playing yesterday. I didn't really like the storyline, I thought the graphics were ok, and I hadn't got used to the style of shooting yet. Now 5 hours into the game at lv15 everything has gotten interesting. I now love the graphics after getting used to them and the gameplay is solid once you get farther in. So to any of you who are just starting, play at least 5-7 hours of this game before you decide whether you like it or not.

I'm not puzzled. I used to have a 8500GT, I know what the 8500GT is capable of, and you're bluffing. I guess I'll just have to wait for a patch to come out or something, b/c it runs like crap and its not my PC. Everything else runs fine, all current games. Just because people say it runs fine on their setups means nothing to me. Everybody could have a different interpretation of what "runs fine" means. I'm used to have everything maxed running at least 40 fps, even batman.

I run no lower than 55-60 FPS on borderlands maxxed, it isn't a demanding game at all, most rigs with at least an 8800 GT and a decent processor should play it fine with half decent settings, GTX 260 + will max this no prob.

Hey guys, turn off mouse smoothing in your Willowinput.ini underneath My Documents\My Games\Borderlands\Willowgame. The fifth or sixth line will say "mousesmoothing=true", change it to "mousesmoothing=false". It makes the game feel a lot more responsive.

I'm using a Xbox Controller for the game, runs smooth as butter.

And I recommend you get the latest nVidia drivers and install them. The game was acting a bit buggy for me, then I read on a forum that installing the latest nVidia drivers fixes. Lo and behold it did for me.

i played an hour of FO3 and couldnt play any more of it. it was boring and combat was really weak. i like games with good stories and stuff, but if the combat is not good, i just cant play the game any more. so is borderlans boring as he say, in terms of gameplay?

absolutely not! so far i've probbably logged about 15 hours of multiplayer with friends, not one of us is bored. I will warn everyone that the game is pretty short (we're 1/2 done) but allows you a "New-game +" type thing where you can redo the entire story again with the same level 30 or so character with monsters scaled up to match your level.

EDIT: As for his GFX problem, all ic an suggest is update your drivers. I'm running it at a smooth 40-50FPS everything maxed using an 8800gts 512.

I got it and I'm really liking how lighthearted and fun it is. I've actually lol'd a few times in game from a "Midget Shotgunner" coming up, firing a shot at me, and the kickback making him fall back on his ass. That's just the kind of game it is, lighthearted, fun, and not confused about what it is. Unfortunately I have yet to have multiplayer work, which really is a major downfall because that's what it's designed for, but the actual gameplay is very fun. Definitely don't expect Fallout 3... they are just completely different games.

Probably is a bad thing.. i see it the same way i see l4d and CSS. You CAN play it solo, but it wont be as good.

4 hours in. I'd give the game around a 5/10 so far. + Combat is pretty fun considering how RPG the game is. + Lots of length and replayability + Unique gameplay - Crappy presentation. - UI is a little unintuitive. - Unoptimized (haven't tried the latest NVIDIA drivers yet, I'll try putting them on) - Weak graphics - Crappy netcode (lags over LAN ) - Game feels rushed. Lots of little quirks that bring the game down. No trade system, bullets are slow (you have to lead targets that are a mere 30 ft in front of you), can't drop money, etc.

E8400 @ 4.0 GHZ, 9800GTX (manually overclocked), 2GB RAM. It's not as great of a system as it used to be, but Borderlands simply doesn't look good enough to justify the framerate.

for anyone having issues, try dx9 mode. I get good fps with dx10, although it seems jittery (mouse smoothing?). Could be a windows 7/ue3 thing, as mirrors edge seems a bit jittery as well.

it's much closer to STALKER than fallout3. and i can play with everything maxed out. I also went into the .ini files and enabled vsync and turned off mouse smoothing and it looks and feels much better now.

If you want this game for the single-player campaign, DON'T get it. It simply doesn't have one, the story is absolutely non-existent, the game is as generic as it can be. Generic enemies, generic scenario, this was CLEARLY directed to coop play. The quests are like "get this and bring it here", "kill a thousand bandits, kill their bosses". If you, like me, are a single-player gamer, forget about this title. One word: BORING!

On the other hand, my guess is that it is guaranteed fun for you if you like to play coop. I don't.

The developers, however, should have clearly stated that the single-player is just a generic casual one, because they say it's fun. IT'S NOT. And I gave it a chance from the bottom of my heart: I really wanted it to be not only good, but amazing. A few hours playing, it is simply unbearable. It is so boring that 1 minute seemed like an hour (and when a game rocks it is the opposite).

For those who cited Fallout 3: one game has absolutely nothing to do with the other, except for the wasteland theme.

Coop players will like Borderlands better, of course (since Fallout 3 is SP only). Single-player gamers like me will think Borderlands is just a bad (bad, bad, bad!) joke compared to FO3. It doesn't even come close.

I should have trusted my intuition and the GS reviews for the consoles (they say pretty much say that there's no story). But for some time now GS has been doing some awful reviews, I couldn't take its word on it. Too bad!

just awful. can't believe that Deus Ex all those years ago managed to do the action/rpg thing better than anyone can really pull off these days. not my kind of game.

Too bad!

it doesnt need a story, why do ppl play video games for story when its supposed to be a game? Have you not noticed that 99% of games have horrible stories? If you want story stick to straight rpgs and metal gear solid.

It doesn't need a story in your opinion: a good story for me is absolutely mandatory. It doesn't need to be "great": after all, the gameplay and our imagination do the rest. No story at all, I can't bear.

And I don't know what you call a great story, but I have seen them A LOT in games, and not only in RPGs. Even FPSs have them, every now and then: like Half-Life 1 and 2, Bioshock, System Shock 2, Stalker SoC. I didn't even need to think hard, they just came to mind.

And Thief 1 and 2, bazillion adventure titles, the list is endless.

I said: Borderlands is focused on coop play. If someone, like me, is a single-player gamer, I advise him/her to stay away from it. Just a friendly advice.

The game has a god-awful story and one of the most disappointing game endings ever - not just as a story but from a gameplay perspective as well.

But it's not about the story. It's an action-rpg-lite in the first person perspective, and it's meant to be co-op. As someone already pointed out it's like L4D. You can play SP, but you'll get bored very quickly. It's meant to be played with friends and it's meant to be a shooter/looter.

It's not even remotely comparable to an RPG like F3.

Amen. The only thing I disagree: it is not an action RPG. It has nothing to do with RPGs, even if it has RPG elements. Oh, and I couldn't say about the ending: I couldn't have the patience to play through... but I strongly imagine you are right. :)

If you hated the story in the beginning you would have wanted to gouge your eyes out with a fork at the end. Simply the worst.

those games are more exceptions, and I personally think the story in bioshock is horrible, especially the ending.

Oh, I second these words here, from Godlike93 (link):

"(...) as many of the others said i'm also rather worried about the story of the sequel : The first one's was simply and without a doubt a masterpiece, an outsider who falls in a strange world isolated from humanity and in the end andrew ryan reveals that all has been planned and it becomes rather a concept of vengeance for the betrayal or a rescue for the little sisters. This outsider-concept at the beginning made 2K able to have much fantasy and this is why it became that awesome."

I'm not kidding, I think it is on par with the very best.

For the record I bought the game with no intention of playing multi and I haven't and I'm having a blast, so please stop telling people how to enjoy a game when you have no right to at all, thanks. This game does everything a shooter should very well, and then throws some action RPG elements in with it, and does both well. FO3 fails at both. FYI FO3 wasn't good, I still can't believe people liked it so much. Not comparing FO3 to Borderlands, I see how FO3 is brought up in comparison but if you think the two are the same you're wrong.

If i'm correct, the Gamespy reviewer says he prefered the singleplayer. I've barely had a chance to play the game, but from what i've seen it is not for the type of people who like well crafted, cinematic, structured games. If for those who like killing and looting. And my initial impressions tell me this game does these things well.

The game isn't supposed to have a good story, but some people still hate the game because it has a bad story. Makes no sense. If you know your not going to like a game with a bad story, then why buy a game that isn't supposed to have a good story? a little research goes a long way.
