I think we all can agree that Crysis is no longer the go-to game for showing off your rig. (Battlefield 3 will probably be the #1 game for showing off when it come out.) What do you think has replaced it? Personally, I have seen tons of Bad Company 2 and Metro 2033. realguitarhero5I think the original Crysis with mods and also Crysis 2 shows off ur rig pretty well. Bad Company 2 does so as too, and "parts" of Metro 2033... Like you said, BF3 is looking pretty spectacular so it might be the next king... (maybe GW2 for fantasy setting)
never got the point .. there will always be someone with a bigger and better rig and it will never be you (not you personally but you as in the metaphoric sense) and from a psychological view you might as well be saying "hey look at me i am over compensating for something else i am lacking"(again not a personal attack)...i thought that is what programs like futuremark/pcmark/3dmark where for... besides... only boys need measuring sticks...real men don't care... ;)nesprocThat's not what he asked...
Not quite. Its still king but BF3 will force it off its throne. Metro almost succeeded but was too inconsistant with its visuals (Beats it vanilla at least IMO. Its very hard to play it maxed out though and thats where its true beauty is.) TW2 definitely has the art-style king though and my new personal graphics king :P
Hard to say. I thought both Metro 2033 and BC2 looked good, though I wasn't crazy about the dreary atmosphere in Metro. There's no question that Crysis is showing it's age, and there are time where I'm not particularly impressed with something, like, the texture rocks. I didn't mod the game though. I still have to yet beat the game. The whole game ran relatively well, however, the damn thing becomes a friggin' slideshow at the last area. flipin_jackass
Dudeee, you have to...it's get really EPIC in the end.
Have you played Warhead?
That looks pretty but if it's out at sea there isn't much to render?clearly no one here bothered to look at pt boats knights of the sea.. as a dx10 game it drives alot of gpu's through hades.. mainly cause the water is so well done it drives the gpu bonkers processing it.. dual 4850's struggle maxed @ 30fps

I understand what you understood from the post... (lol) I think what he meant was "who is the graphics king these days?" or "is Crysis off the graphics throne". I agree with you about showing off ur rig IN THAT MATTER.... it IS compensating for something else (like have an extra loud exhaust on ur car)

water in enough volume done well can be very punishing n a gpu its actually one of the harder things a gpu can do.. right next to AA and AF

BF3 footage has been nice but it's really hard to say it has Crysis beat.
I'm assuming you mean The Witcher 2 lol :P we need a new abbreviation for that because it was first Two Worlds 2 and that's what first came to mind when I saw TW2Not quite. Try watching the gameplay footage first, if you want to make such threads. Battlefield doesn't look better than something like BC 2, it's BC 2 with better lighting and better destruction, no, not total destruction like some around this forum say, it's the same thing with more "detachable" pieces and BC 2 is nothing spectacular.
One thing you said is good, Metro 2033, but it's a corridor shooter, it has to look good since they went for graphics that are better than Stalker.
I don't care about the graphics king, as long as it doesn't look horrible, it's good, but I find it amazing how people consider the average looking BF 3 to be the most advanced game yet when all I see is CoD quality in the buildings, BC 2 quality outside, better lighting but at the same time horrible since they also added bloom 2.0 not just destruction 2.0.
P.S Average isn't used as a "bad" word, it's average because it's on par with the usual quality in PC games nowadays. The only amazing games are Crysis/Warhead, Metro 2033 and Witcher 2 which also has a superb art style.
Yeah from what we've seen it might look a bit better but I'm almost positive it won't be near as hardware crippling as Crysis was and still is. It isn't as wide open as Crysis is and thats the main reason Crysis is so demanding.
Vanilla Crysis, maybe.
But modded Crysis will probably forever remain king, because the modding capabilities will always improve over time and the community will always bring forth other, more detailed mods.
If anything would even stand to have a chance, it needs a engine more advanced than Crysis, and also mod friendly.
Crysis has not been dethroned..... yet . Sorry.
Now it is true that Crysis is aging and so because its not fresh, newer games are gonna generate more excitement, and yes other games are pretty and advertise themselves as DX 11, but everytime some new GPU comes out and the company is like, this GPU is a beast! the reply has always been, yeah, but can can it run Crysis.
When BF3 or some other game or some playable tech demo melts my GPU and fries my CPU and hogs my RAM and really uses the full potential of DX 10, or DX 11 and I have to upgrade to, I don't know, prolly GTX 1060, maybe then I'll give it the crown.

crysis 2 looks great but i hate all the motion blur crap they have on. Personally i think crysis 2 only looks a abit better than killzone 2 . BC2 and metro also look great too. I hear rage is gonna use some really high rez textures so i guess rage might be the next big one on graphics. BF3 looks good too but it looks like it might have loads of motion blur too :(
Crysis has not been dethroned just yet. I honestly never was all that impressed with Metro 2033's graphics.
Battlefield 3 will probably do it. Until then, Crysis is still the king.
Honestly, The fact that people are even saying things like this will beat crysis and will be GFX king is an accomplishment and a compliment for the games. They have already won in some ways
I really don't understand what people find so beautiful about Battlefield 3. It makes the mistake of way too much beige and tan. I haven't seen any screenshots of color, so for me, Crysis w/ a few mods (I use CCC6 and the Hi-Res Foliage) still looks better than anything else I've ever seen. I did just get BC2 off Steam, but it's not playing well on my system and the config file says everything is on Medium when it's actually set to High, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Vanishing water textures at the beginning also ruin the experience :P
Standing by modded Crysis for now. Metro 2033 was nice but never blew me away. BF3 will have to convince me by not looking like MW2 (which it kind of does at the moment).

When people talk about graphics king they're talking about technical graphics. And from a technical standpoint BF3 looks impressive so far. Too much tan and beige or lack of color is art direction and that's a different topic altogether.
Honestly, I don't think anything looks better than Crysis and Crysis Warhead. Metro 2033 looks great, but it's on a much smaller scale and still doesn't really have the edge over Crysis. That's not to say that other games don't look impressive, though. I think Medal of Honor looks really awesome. Visually, it's one of my favorite games. As for the game that will dethrone Crysis, I look to no other than Battlefield 3.
Hard to say. I thought both Metro 2033 and BC2 looked good, though I wasn't crazy about the dreary atmosphere in Metro. With or without mods, at high settings, this game is absolutely spectacular. Just the fact that the textures on rocks aren't the strongest part of the game's graphics does not mean it's aging.
Thing is, since Crysis came out, a few games challenged it, but no game has actually managed to look better than it, and this game is almost 4 years old. You want a game that's showing its age? Take Doom 3 or F.E.A.R for example. But Crysis? No way, dude.
I think BF3 is the only game that we currently know of that has a chance at dethroning Crysis. It looks good, but from what I have seen so far it might only be better in some specific ways like Metro 2033. Metro 2033 and BF3 will probably both have more detailed objects (like computers, coffee mugs etc..), but they may overall be less than Crysis.
Can you imagine if BF3 was modded? Also, the fact mods are brought up is more proof vanilla Crysis can't outdo vanilla BF3.
The tank battle looks wide open from the glimpse we saw in the 12 minute and my life vids.Yeah from what we've seen it might look a bit better but I'm almost positive it won't be near as hardware crippling as Crysis was and still is. It isn't as wide open as Crysis is and thats the main reason Crysis is so demanding.

Yes, I've seen it and no, it'll have 0 modding, because, just like BF 2, there will be no "real" dedicated servers, everything will go through the EA servers, no matter what company offers server hosting.ferret-gamer
DICE will have two options:
1) They won't care, just like all their recent games.
2) They'll remake popular BF 2 maps and sell them after a few free packs.
Now, I have a question for you, ever played BC 2 and MW 2/BOps? if you did then you know how "amazing" BF 3 actually looks, if not, just like most that are brainwashed by the BF 3 hype, you guys see something that the others can't.
