I still do, and i can max everything i throw at it @ 1920x1200 (apart from crysis OFC).

The 9-series and 2-series have dissapointed me so far; insane prices, and a minimal pefrormance increase, I'm seriously considering moving to ATI, because Nvidia is really failing to deliver ATM.

Anyone else agree/still happy with the 8-series card?

I still have my 8800 GTS 512mb. It's heavily overclocked, and has the G92 core, so I don't know that you can really call it an 8800. Performance-wise it's at the level of a 9800gtx, so I guess that just goes to show what a crappy job Nvidia did with their 9-series naming scheme. The GTX200 series did provide some huge performance gains over our cards though.. it's just that I haven't found any games (other than Crysis and maybe FC2, which I was able to nearly max out at 1680x1050 on my card) that run poorly enough to make me want to upgrade. I used to have an 8800 GTS 640mb, with the old G80 core, and that I felt the need to upgrade from, but mainly just because of Crysis.

The 9 series were a refresh of the 8 series that is why there was almost no performance increase.

and they are refreshing the 9 series into the GT100 series

I'm getting a gtx 260 16 core soon. I got an 8800 GT I would OC it but I fail at OC'ing or something because I get nvidia driver failure while playing games so I want to get a gtx 260 16 core. I don't see the problem with upgrading once a year Just wait soon newer more demanding games will come out :).

I'm not getting it for another couple months if something from nvidia comes at 250$ and is better then i'll get that of course but I highly doubt it. I also just want a new graphics card see if the performance increase is as much as people say. And I like to keep up to date yearly :)

I hate how Nvidia rebrands and renames it's products so many times, in the end, only to confuse the customer into thinking an older product is new and superior. Take a look at this. http://www.techpowerup.com/80181/G92-Based_GeForce_9_Series_Products_to_be_Renamed_GeForce_GTS_200_Series.html

Games run great for me under Windows 7 with an 8800GT, even at 1920x1200. It's pretty much the same as Vista, but better.

9 series is fine. the 8800gt was expensive when it first came out. the 9800gt was about half that when it came out.

I still got my XFX 8800 GTS 320 XXX Edition...I bought it for around 500-600 USD!!!(yes pc hardware is expensive where I live) when it came out and I 'm getting every dollar out of it! I had a few problems with it so far, but still love it! As for drivers, nVidia is the best! As for mobos, I got an XFX 650i, I never had a worse mobo! It miss-working, for some weird reason BIOS isn't upgrading when I try to, only two USB ports are working(one of them not always) and as for sound card, not so good. After that mobo, I decided to go Intel again and maybe try ATI as well. 4850 X2 looks nice.

I'm still pleased with my 640mb 8800GTS. It's one of the better computer related purchases I've made. I bought it in January 2007 for $330, and I don't think I've ever had a video card hold up so well over time. I can max out, or come pretty close to maxing out every game at 1680x1050, except Crysis.

It will probably be at least another year before I seriously consider getting a new video card. As the TC stated, the 9 and 200 series just aren't enough of an improvement over the 8 series to make them worthwhile for me.

I love my 8800GTS 320Mb and rather stupidly I play all my games at 1920x1080 but it can handle almost all the games I play on high settings apart from the obviuos ones (Crysis, FC2, WiC) and I don't plan on getting a new one until at least another year when I plan to use the SLi capabilities of my MOBO at last :D

I know what you mean man, people have this upgrade happy mentality. My 8800GT is a stock and i can happily max any game i throw at it including Crysis Warhead (gamer settings). Iam a firm believer in upgrading when the games require it, that way you get good price/performance and it will normally last you longer....iam comparing me to the people who initially went out and bout the 8800 320 & 640mb cards!Daytona_178

Yeah wish I'd hung on for the 8800GT 512Mb but I was very much a noob back then  which I notice you can now pick up for the incredibly respectable price of £60 much better value than a PS3

You may go ahead and laugh at me but I'm using a 7300GT card. I finally learned to STOP upgrading and just try to find the GREAT games that would work well on my card. I also spend more time with my DS and PSP and use my PC usually for internet and multimedia. Here are the games I currently have that takes advantage of my card:

Gears of War 1 (Yes, medium/high level only)

Half-Life 2 series (What can I say! This game's graphics are so sweet I couldn't believe my video card can run it!)

Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy (I don't think the new one will work)

DOOM 3 (It feels like this games was made for this card!)

Far Cry (Ultra Quality)

Quake 4 (WOW!)

Bionic Commando ReArmed

Devil May Cry 3

A bunch of "Casual" games :D

ME, I've got 8800GT very happy with it. Add GTAIV to your list of what you won't be able to max out.

I own most of the best PC games over the past few years and they all (well excpet Crysis) run really well at 1920x1200 on my 8800 GTS 512. Like most 8800 owners I'll be buying a new card when Diablo 3 or another must have title comes out...

I'm using an 8800GT right now. It works good, but my PC seems to be struggling a bit in the wasteland in Fallout 3. I think I need more RAM though, since I only have 2 gigs right now.

I have a 256MB 8600GT card. Only new games that I've been able to max out at my native resolution (1440x900) that I have tried are Left 4 Dead and CoD:W@W. I play most of the games I have fine maxed out (apart from Crysis Warhead).

I went to an 8800GT from a 7900GT because my 79 was making huge artifacts when it started to get warm at like 75C and above even with the fan on 100%. I wanted to wait until the 98GT but then when i saw how crappy they were i knew it was pointless to wait. Im starting a new build but im going to be keeping my 88GT and wait until the GTX 295 comes out and see how well it does compared to the 260 and 285 to see if the performance is good enough to jump to it.

Nothing wrong with an 8 series card, it sure lasted a long time if you bought an 8800GTX at launch ;) No real pressure from ATI so Nvidia was just kicking back letting the cash roll in. X360PS3AMD05

Definitely. If you bought an 8800GTX when it came out, then you made a great purchase.

I also agree, people who bought the 8800GTX have had a great run!

*Strokes his 8800GTX* ahhhh....

My 8800gts 640... both of them, lol... are not so happy with new games these days. I can still do most at fairly good settings, but I feel like I might switch to a gtx 285, and live the single card life again... possibly upgrading in a year or two.

I've got an 8800 GTS 512, and its still going strong, even at my monitors resolution of 1920x1200 =). Only a few games do I have to scale back the settings, and I am able to acheive very playable framerates with 2x anti-aliasing.

Though I must devulge, I am about to purchase a radeon 4870!!=) I miss the ability to crank the settings up ALL the way in any game with out tweakng or anything.

I still have my 8800GT, still running strong! Except for GTA IV. I'm able to play, Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, Left4Dead, etc, with no issues. I was even able to play Crysis and got a respectable fps, with a respectable look to the game. :D

I will for at least another year. The only game that taxes out my video card right now is the obvious one and that runs at a decent framerate on high settings anyway.
