It's the hype talking. You know after you've seen a movie and you put it in your top five list, and think it's really amazing. But after a year you realize that it wasn't that good, and you feel ashamed you made that claim .GeneralShowzerWrong....Mass Effect 1+2 were both EPIC and AMAZING.... :)

What's Fallout have to do with this?the guy you quoted is obviously a Fallout fanboy. I've taken the liberty of actually playing almost all Fallout games, but there was never a shock n awe kinda feeling like ME did.
I found the character designs, character storylines, animations, and voice acting to be very impressive. Really among the best I've seen in all of those categories.
However, the game really doesn't rank up there with my favorites because of the oversimplified character development and customization options. Also, scanning is just one of the most tedious and boring things I've ever seen put into a video game.

If I add a game/game/whatever to my top five list, that means it's really damn good, and it stays that way.

You again. Do you have some kind of vendetta against BioWare for some reason? Did the big bad BioWare employee creep into your room when you were a little kid? :(
No i like most of their games. Just not ME2 and DA II.[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]

That's the thing. I wasn't hyped about MAss Effect. If I hadn't gotten that game as gift, I would have bought Far Cry 2 and then I would never have known the Mass Effect universe.
In fact, I didn't enjoy a large part of Mass Effect. The inventory and the combat REALLY annoyed me.
As for Mass Effect 2, I haven't played it for about 3 months after buying it. So suffice to say I wasn't hyped from the beginning.
Now, after having played the game, I get the same feeling I got after finishing Episode 2, Deus Ex, Crysis Warhead (I liked this game a lot).
So yeah, I don't think its the hype. I think I genuinely like this game. And why not? Its an amazing game, and every RPG fan should try it for himself before judging it.
Hey if it's your opinion it's your opinion. The game didn't really give me anything special. It lacked focus and sense of progress because most of the game you did side missions. The hacking was boring, planet scanning was boring, there was nothing to do the whole game besides shooting like a madman and talking to people. There was no inventory, no items you can trade, no variety of game-play because every class felt the same. The ending boss also felt stupid. Think for a second what it was... Those are my reasons for disliking the game. I don't like TPS in general, maybe that's why too. There were moments that were epic...but so what. MW2 had more moments that were epic and more powerfull images. Doesn't make it the best game ever.Hey if it's your opinion it's your opinion. The game didn't really give me anything special. MW2 is better? What, I don't even..ugh. Are you even remotely aware that ME2 won Game of the Year and Ultimate RPG of the year at the Golden Joystick awards, not more than two weeks ago? I had no idea that the criteria for winning one of those awards was being shallow, boring and lacking focus.

Why do you keep taking my words out of contest? I said it had more epic moments, only the last part of ME2 was epic, and that's one of the main reasons people like the game "the epicness".Golden what? Not credible sorry, who gives GOTY awards when the year isn't over.
Why are you trying to convince me that the game is some kind of masterpiece, when i clearly gave reasons why i didn't like it.
Gameplay wise, I loved ME2, a vast improvement over the previous ME. Story wise, it was pretty average but the presentation was great.
@chandu: I am really surprised that you liked ME2 to this extend and curious about your detailed views on this game. So looking forward to read your readers review a.s.a.p. I liked it alright but it is moreof a shooter and rpg elements are really weak in this game( even compared to ME1) Also, as I wrote you before I guess many gamers are impressed by cinematics that the actual game itself. Well, if we want to see a good sci-fi movie or animation there are a lot of better ones available.
I thought it was pretty epic, the last level was intense.
there'll always be complainers though, like with any popular game
It's a well-made game, and the versatile story is one of the biggest reasons why it is. Too many impossible conclusions is what makes this game fun and replayable, this game's the best 2010 game, sorry F: NV.
I agree generally that the story in Mass Effect 1 + 2 has been one of the finest gaming has ever seen, but the actual ending of ME2 I didn't think was particularly incredible: It was a cliffhanger designed to get us hyped for ME3. What the story does manage to do very well though is make you care about all the characters on your team, and become invested in them. Character design is generally done really well, in that Commander Shepard is the glue which keeps the rag-tag team together. Fascinated to see how things will round off in the final installment.
I enjoyed Mass Effect, and it's a highly polished and entertaining game, but I wouldn't call it one of the best games ever. That'd sort of be like calling...I don't know, Terminator 2 the best movie ever. Sure, it's entertaining and might even end up being a classic, but I think there are more significant/worthy titles out there, with greater lasting impressions, etc.
As for the story, the characters were interesting and appealing (although a section of the crew was a bit bland, like Jacob, Thane and Miranda), but the actual story itself didn't go anywhere.
It was disappointing, especially after the first one set up an epic premise (OMG REAPERS!!), and the second game only lightly touched on that at best.
For me the Mass Effect series is mind blowing. Like has been stated the world and races feel real, it is set in our Galaxy and makes it feel more realistic. And I can't wait for next years ME3 will be out.
But personly I hope we go beyond the trilogy I love the Mass Effect Galaxy and would want to see more, maybe as a new character. Or play as a Alien race, wouldn't it be cool if your a Krogen looking for a cure for the genophage or a Quarian on a pilgramage looking for tech. The could call it Mass Effect Chronicals and each new game with a new char doing something to improve or hamper the Galaxy. And they could have familiar chars helping you for ME 1 to 3 even your version of Sheppard. The potential for ME is massive!
I'm with those that sat and thought about the game and such afterward. I loved both games but it seemed they went too far with the changes from one game to the other. A good middle ground on the big three would have been close to perfect. First the combat could have been a combination of firefight and cover system heavy. Second I would have a more inventory then 2 but less then 1. Having things to sell and collect to use is prefered to me. Third a combination planet scanning/Mako missions would have been less monotinous. Just a few thoughts.:)
I guess it goes to show how much our standards have fallen. .Gooeykat
Oh yeah? Who made you the go-to guy for creating standards?
Everyone on forums bash MW2, Oblivion, GTA IV , games that were AAA, won GOTY awards, and have a high user rating and high sales. Are Bioware games sacred or something? GeneralShowzerApart from Oblivion, none of those games outsold or outscored Mass Effect 2 on THE PC. Bioware isn't sacred, but at least they don't screw the pc userbase like the others have.
It ran amazingly well as well and received "Blizzard like" polish. Technicalities aside, the gameplay and storytelling were also brilliant. I really can't wait for final one which promises to be even greater :)DRM is non existent. Can you believe that? I mean sure there is disk check. But yeah...
I am like, these guys are too good to be true! I got the game for only $22 on Play.com!

Self appointed, I guess ;).
In all seriousness, I didn't say it was a bad game, just not one of the all time greats. To many bad game design choices IMO.

How do you know this since PC sales are so hard to determine given digital distribution?GooeykatPress releases by companies. I base my assumptions on the fact that Bioware were positive about their sales numbers whereas MW2 and GTA IV were only disappointed. It may very well be possible that MW2 sold more than ME2, but I'm assuming not by much.
Wrong....Mass Effect 1+2 were both EPIC and AMAZING.... :)FelipeInside
+1. Loved both games with flaws and all, I cant wait to see the conclusion in ME3.In me1 the story was brilliant but the shooter parts were a bit boring, along with that pathetic inventory. In me2 the story was dumbed down (more about finding people instead of killing bad dudes) so that the action could be improved, they need to find the right level of action and story for ME3. Also they must add a 'villain' in me3 (like Saren in ME1). His story was wonderfully done. Harbringer wasn't a villain, he was a enemy.
Me3 - ME2 gameplay + me1 story = :)

Not only that but, Mass Effect 2 was actually better than MW2 and GTAIV by Alot, and more than oblivions cookie cutter npcs
