Now, I'm finding so many mixed results on the matter that I have no real idea at this point. it seems the 560 outperforms the 2gb version of the 6950, but the general idea I'm getting from the 6950 is that it will be future proof and the early numbers for it don't mean much.

I'm generally leaning toward the 6950 because I generally don't care one bit about physx and that the card will play Battlefield 3 much better then either of those cards. They all cost around the same price depending on the video memory here are the models I'm looking at;

Nvidia:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0356003

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0337797

Amd:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354421

I have until Thursday to decide to but coming to a conclusion before then would help.

If you are going to be playing on a resolution of 1200p or higher, go with the 2gb 6950, the extra vram will help with your resolution (Also if you plan to Bios flash it to a 6970 this is the definite choice). If your playing 1080p or lower, go with the 560 over the 470, consumes less power and better temps. Of course this is just my opinion, either the 560 or the 6950 will do the job just fine of running games on High/Ultra for a while. :)

I'll be playing it at 1920x1080. Just for me I want to play Witcher 2 and Battlefield 3 at high to max settings and the 2gb seems not only a great current choice, but also a future proof card. But a lot of reviews give me such mixed results like these:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6950/18.html

And many others seem to show it being outperformed by 1280mb cards or vastly outdoing them.

So it seems like the 560 ti seems like a great card.

But should I just go with the 6950-2gb just to future-proof myself?

All i can say is my old evga 8800 gts 640mb crapped out and replaced it with Evga 560 GTXTI and happy with it. Don't do like me, was wondering why card wasn't working at first, i'd never seen a video card that had 2 plugs for a power supply before hehehe.

I would honestly recommend a GeForce GTX 570, from EVGA. The card is fantastic, has rebate (its a pain to fill the form and all that and it takes a long time to get the rebate, I got mine yesterday). think about it. I feel going for 570 would give you a lot more value for your money, especially when you are playing games like Metro.

the 6950 is the fastest card of all 3, there are many benchmarks out there that prove it. If you don't care about physx then thats even more so true.

I agree with this. I was gonna get a 6950 but im only using my Plasma TV as my monitor and its 720p native so I went with an SOC Gigabyte 560.

According to reviews for the 2 GB of RAM in the 6950 it really doesn't add much more to the card nowadays. The 1 gig cards seem to be outperforming it in some instances. Especially the super over clocked 560. That thing is a monster for the price. Also the 460 isn't a bad card at all either

this is a review of the 560 ti overclocked to 1ghz vs 6950 overclocked to 850mhz. Summary is the 560ti barely beats the 6950. The 6950 can easily overclock past 900mhz these days so basically there is no 560ti that is able to keep up with a 6950.

Yeah, I would've gotten a 2GB 6950 if it wasn't for 3D Surround, and the fact that I have an SLI board...

But a lot of the results from this review shows the 560 beating the 6950. In crysis it had better frameratesand was quicker at normal drag and drop tasks. For me the 560 was like 40 euro cheaper the a 6950 so for that price difference I don't see how the 560 could be bad at all. Its a hugely impressive. Also you get Physx

they key point is that the 6950 was overclocked to only 850 mhz whereas the 560ti was overclocked to 1 ghz. The only game that the 560 really beats the 6950 in is hawx..which is a game sponsored by nvidia and uses so much tesselation that it messes up the benchmark to favor the 560 which is better at tesselation.

That sucks. I literally just ordered my new rig today and I was wondering between the 6950 2GB or the 560 and I thought the 560 was a better choice. Now I regret it and I can't change my order. Dang it :(

no big deal theres not a huge difference either way....although if you get a good overclocking 6950 they will beat a 570 pretty easily and go toe to toe with the 580 gtx. At stock there isnt a big difference b/w either card, plus you get some features with the 560 like phsyx.

Don't feel bad.. You saved some money and still got one hell of a card. Besides, you can always put the 560 on eBay later this year when Kepler is released if you're not happy with it. But I don't think you'll have any regrets. I've had my 560 for a month, and I'm lovin' it... BTW, which 560 did you get?

I got the gigabyte SOC version. I wanted the 1000MHz version but it was out of stock and I've heard some stability issues so my one is clocked at 950 MHz. Not a huge difference. Its my first rig so I think I wouldn't know the difference anyway between the 560 and 6950. Also im not good with overclocking and BIOS flashing stuff so I like a pre overclocked card with a warranty :P

6950 2GB is better but not necessarily $40 better so dont regret your decision, as everyone said 560 is a great card as well and the SOC one you ordered is one hell of a beast. Enjoy! :D

get the 6950, its the best bang for your buck, cuz you can also flash it to a 6970... you dont really need to though since its a really good card on its own, im running 2 in CF and I havent played a game that I cant get 60 fps at 1920x1200 yet with them

ignore my sig... it isnt updated with my newer rig XD

OK.....so that's why you needed a good PSU for,right? :P

I think that's a good choice......I too thought of getting an MSI GTX560ti twin Frozer....but had to buy a new PSU now since my old one is playing tricks.

Here is a video I found pitting 2 560's against 2 6950's and the AMD cards kill the 560's when in crossfire. But run much hotter consuming less power. But these are stocks im guessing.

That's true, but I'm mostly sticking to single card and that's where the 560 dominates.

6950 > 560 > 470.

If the 470 is still on your list, than cross it out. Unless you can find it for $200-ish otherwise is outdated hardware in terms of price (280 from your link), runs very hot, and driver supports more or less just boost 5xx cards from recent updates.

Between 560 or 6950 2gb, than go ahead with the 6950 particularly powercolor brand b.c thats garaunteed to unlock :) since they paid amd to maintain that feature, I think ionusx posted that sometime back. So pretty much if you buy a 6950 you get a free upgrade to 6970, and on top of that you can still overclock, thats a lot of free fps right there! The 560 is upper-midend/highend card, while a 6950 is closer to a true enthusiats card and probably more satisfying to get the bigger bang gpu if you were to stick to one card.

Although on the otherhand the gtx 570 is still sick with ocing 900mhz core/2000mem stable along with vapour chamber cooling on reference coolers.

The HD6950 has a slight advantage over GTX 560. But some games give better performance with the GTX 560. One is good with some games while the other is better with some other games. Considering overall performance, the HD6950 is just the better one and of course, you can flash it to an HD6970. :D I'm going to buy a GTX 560 Ti since its a little bit cheaper and has just a slightly lower performance than the HD6950. :)

Ive been checking the feedback on newegg and a bunch of the 2gb still unlock. The 570 and the 6970 and 6950 unlocked are very similar power wise, any of those 3 cards would be the best you could go as far as video cards go, so going with whatever is cheaper is the best option. Of course you have some difference b/w the geforce and radeon cards, for example the geforce cards are better at tessellation than the radeon cards and the geforce cards also have physx ( which is only available in a handful of games) while Radeon cards have better power efficiency and also have support for eyefinity.

6950 2GB is better but not necessarily $40 better so dont regret your decision, as everyone said 560 is a great card as well and the SOC one you ordered is one hell of a beast. Enjoy! :D

This. I don't think you can go "wrong" with either card at 1080p. You're going to be a happy camper, that's for sure. Enjoy...

Both cards are gonna make the games work like you dream them to be. Choosing is yours to do. ;)
