so... is 4 gigs of ram still the standard for 64 systems?

if your gaming its what you need its not required for anything beyond that but 4b ram is basically an unexcused must if your gaming.

What do you mean about 64Bit processors/4GB?, a PAE extension can do more than 4GB even on 32Bit. Not many apps./games/softw. need even whole 4GB, rarely something need more than 2GB, but ram is cheap so why not?, 4GB is pleanty for most you would like to do on a normal PC and could possible offload your hard/solid.state. drives page. file. Note that all currently mainstream PC CPU's are 64Bit but has basicly nothing to do about the maximum memory you could use but the instructions.

What games chew in whole 4GB of ram? 2Gb works in most games perfectly fine, h*ck even 1GB do fine in many games, 4GB is on the safe side sure but's it's nowhere near a requirement to run games.

It's cheap so get 4 gigs - (I know you have it already) anything more and you likely won't see any improvement.

It's not worth it, you'll gain nothing for gaming, if you have 900pic's open in pht.shop and 800layers each it might be a good investment or if you want to run witcher 2 and crysis at the same time but for a casual game your not using the 4GB you got. 4GB still work fine and as you already have it your not in need to upgrade, what are the rest of the PC's specs you could possible lay that money on a better graphic card or into the next PC build?

You get faster binaries (etc) with a 64 bit OS, not just access to more RAM so yes it's worth the time/money to upgrade.

Actually if you look at benchmarks you would likely see a bigger improvement going from 4 gb of slow memory to 4 gb of fast memory rather than buying 4 more gb of slow memory.

What speeds you at currently?

They're just about as fast you can get DDR2's, you'll gain nothing to upgrade the ram speed or the amount, are you on a AM2+ or a S775 build, perhaps even a board with different ram slots that'll take DDR3's? Well it really dosn't matter really, your fine with what you have and should lay the money on your next build instead, my opinion is that you'll want to exchange a AM2+/s775 PC before you need more than 4GB ram. (that is if gaming is the main intention of the PC.)

As long as you have 2 empty ram slots there is nothing to worry, just buy 2 more sticks when a game maxes out your ram usage. Currently games dont do that but they will sooner or later.

yeah, but i think 4gb is no longer the sweet spot for gaming though. 8gb is so cheap now that why wouldnt you go with more ram?

4GB is enough for now, and as the TC has the fastest rated DDR2 there's not much point for him to buy any more - just stick with what you've already got and keep any potential upgrade money towards a new system. For those looking to build a new machine now - 4GB is still going to be plenty enough for anything out there now gaming wise. Maybe in the next 18 months we will start seeing more games take advantage fully of 4GB, but given the tendency to port low memory console games, it's going to be the exceptions that can take advantage of anything higher than 4GB

What game need more than 4GB? That list of games do not exist. You can even run multiple games on 4GB, most games plays perfecly fine on 2GB ram.

No prob. Hard ern't $ shouldn't be spent on something you'll find no pleasure in, give yourself a tap on the shoulder and feel happy about having the strength to resist unnecessary PC upgrades! ;)
