WAR was so hyped as a potential WoW killer. But now that's it's out and running, what do you guys think so far?
Does it live up to its hype or is WoW still the king of the MMOs?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Just to clear a point: The hype was only from people that post on sites like this and certain gaming site editors. Not from the game or it's developers.
Nonetheless:
The game is damn good. And while it may not be possible to overtake WoW's subscription rates, it is definitely a better MMO unless you're strictly into PVE Raiding. It's relatively stable, and the PvP/RvR is really well done. The only issue I have it this point is "Where are the stupid casuals playing dwarves and elves to be mercilessly slaughtered?". Definitely needs more dumb Order players the way WoW had whiny Alliance teenagers.
Warhammer is doing extremely well on the sales chart. Right now, their sales are solely based on "Word of Mouth." Once the trial version is up, they should get a surge of people to hop on board. That's when you'll really see Word of Mouth really take effect.
Wow Killer? No. It definitely has the potential to stick around for a while though.
Personally, I'm waiting for a trial version, or enough info from research to convince myself to get it.
Warhammer and WoW will live together. War is more for PvP and WoW is for more PvE.Wasdie
This.
Not sure who started this up, but it certainly isn't going to "kill" World of Warcraft. It doesn't need to, either..as each one offers a unique experience. WAR has..well, War..offering dynamic large-scale RvR throughout the entire game. WoW excels in the area of scripted PvE/raiding..which some seem to prefer. Play whichever interests you more.

Well if WAR can't do it, who is next in line, would Guild Wars 2 will be considered the a challenger???
Honestly I don't really care if any game kills WoW. People will play what they like as long as it is fun to them. And really that is all that matters.
UGGHHHH This is REALLLLLYYY annoying. There is no such thing as a "WoW Killer" or a game killer. A game is not gonna come out and take all 10 million suscribers to wow and force blizzard to shut wow down. Will WAR accumulate suscribes from WoW? Sure it will! It is not gonna kill wow in any shape or form no matter how good the game is.
WoW will lose some people of course, back on track, I think WAR will not have more suscribers then WoW for a LONG time, with WOTLK comming out WoW will be on top for another year im guessing then after that it will steadily loose suscribers due to the game being very out dated and having stronger competition.
I will admit WAR is gonna give WoW a run for its money, and honestly i think both games will be good, each has their own style. No game will kill another there will just be competition between the two which will lead to the devs improving each game. And I think both will have a lot of suscribers, but WoW will remain a little ahead.
The only issue I have it this point is "Where are the stupid casuals playing dwarves and elves to be mercilessly slaughtered?". They want to be the big buff evil awesome looking bad guys, not the wimpy looking Order. And from what I've seen, Destruction is outnumber Order pretty consistently, and sometimes by a huge margin. :D

While this is true, after playing for quite sometime.... I still find WoW's PvP to be better gameplay-wise.
After playing WAR for a while I agree with what you just said.

What you guys have to remember is wow has had years to evolve into what it is today. Think back to WoW's launch, it was a very different game then to what it is today, it didn't even have BG or PvP rewards at the start. WAR is new, just like WoW it will evolve over time and keep improving. The fact it can already be compared to WoW and stand pretty well against it says alot. Think what WAR will be like in 12-24 months time.

I think they are speaking more of the actual fighting mechanics... not of any PvP awards or Battlegrounds. WAR just plays... i dunno, slower. Watching your character fight in WAR is a lot slower than in WoW. Spell and ability effects just really aren't that impressive in WAR. Both the clunky fighting and lackluster ability/spell effects are a problem Mythic had with DAoC. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case in WAR as well.
WAR is still a good game, but any game that is heavily based on combat needs to have a good fighting mechanic in place.

That's my belief, as well. I'm playing Warhammer and I think it is a good game...it's a competitve alternative to WoW. Will it kill WoW? I don't think so. And why should it have to? There's obviously something to WoW that keeps attracting millions to it. There are some things that Warhammer offers, that WoW does not. Both games will attract their own subscribers. And then play on...

i hear from some people that even though order are insanely outnumbered in most scenarios, they usually win RvR battles because only the most hardcore players roll order and try to challenge themselves by killing more destruction

Yeah same here, I'm all about PvP when it comes to online RPG's and MMO's, but I just had a pretty bad experience with WoW. I got bored once I hit 60, the BG's were fun at low lvls but it only lastest so long for me and I didn't have it in me to go all the way to lvl70. But this game looks pretty cool.
What does RvR mean?-Origin-
RvR means realm vs. realm. it will take a good while to explain(and by that i mean maybe a paragraph), so i suggest googling it

I've played two RvR scenarious now, and it's been 50/50 in my experience. The first time, Order murdered...the second time, Chaos murdered.
I like playing a nice Order person in the game, because I'm a nice guy in real life. Anyway...yeah, I have found myself outnumbered on a couple of occasions. In a RvR area, there were four of us members of order getting repeatedly slaughtered by about 12 chaos members.

There was a page somewhere where a guy was charting the guilded populations of each server, using WAR's guild search function. IIRC it was generally between 1.2:1 and 3:1 for Destruction : Order.WoW died when Tom Chilton got hired.
Anyways its to soon to see what end game WAR has to offer since theres only 3 lvl 40 people world wide but I expect end game in WAR to be a lot better with less scripted content than a certain game out there.
nothing can kill WoW... NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111one
... no seriously, why is everyone wondering what game is going to 'kill WoW' ? Meh, i'm just waiting for diablo 3 and SC2 :O

I think Blizzard is playing their cards right by releasing WOTLK in mid November, its just enough time for the "I'll just try WAR and see how it goes people". After a month and a half they would havehad a well needed break from WoW and then come back to find all the new expansion pack content.the_one34
or just enough time to see how completely awesome WAR is, and how much WOW sucks in comparison, and then they never want to go back!
Only time will tell. Warcraft has 40 percent of its players addicted. And it hs over 10 million subscribers. It will take time for war's success (inevitable success, that is) to take action
