So the best video card for 300 bucks now is the 4870 or GTX 260?

I noticed the GTX 260 has 896MB and the 4870 has 512MB. I have seen the benchmarks and both cards about the same. I just want to clarify which of these 2 is the better buy and is more future proof? As well, which one is better when paired with another card? I've been told that Sli is mature enought to take better advantage and the Crossfire isn't, is this true or no? Thanks for your time and answers :)

from reveiws the 4870 actualy beats 260 in many games, and for the price it well worth getting instead, the 260 kinda not worth getting UNLESS you can get it for same price as 4870, though i dout this.

atm 4870 best card to get and it great value, though i suggest you make sure your CPU /PC wont bottle neck the card.

Radeons have problems with scaling in Crossfire mode, while GTX cards in SLI do much better. I believe it's because Crossfire just renders the board in a checkerboard pattern, while SLI uses cards to render alternating frames, but I could be wrong on that.

Well right now I have A Pentium 4 3.0GHZ with 2GB Ram DDR2 and a 7600GT. I know my CPU will totally bottleneck it. Im getting a Core 2 Duo with the new video card

The 4870 is definitely a better single card, no doubt. But for crossfire...

Could be a driver and/or using AA issue.

4870 overheats like crazy. Only way to bring the temps down is by hacking the driver......The card sucks. The fan is also really loud. Get the Evga GTX260 FTW instead. It runs 10% faster then the 4870, and doesn't have overheating problems. Regariding the Crossfire VS SLI......Some games simply do not work with Crossfire. That's not a problem with SLI. So, if you want a GOOD QUALITY product, get a GTX 260

Larrymon2000

On some games the HD4870 in crossfire (80% scaling) even beats the GTX280 in SLI (60% scaling).

But on others HD4870 in crossfire is outperformed (-40% scaling?) by a single HD4870, the GTX280 in SLI beats it by a huge difference (65% scaling) At least the R700 keeps showing some leadership (90% scaling).

What are you talking about? My 4850 runs certain games faster than the 260 so I'm sure the 4870 beats the 260. + my card has never overheated even though it's overclocked in a crappy case.

I suggest you go and check more than one benchmarks. The gtx 260 beats the 4850 in most games, and is almost on par with the 4870, but the ati card is a lttle faster.

Uhh.... you do know that you basically typed what I typed even though you thought it was incorrect right?? LoL! Like I stated before, the 4850 beats the 260 in certain games and the 4870 beats the 260 and at times, beats even the 280 GTX. Damn, some people can't read correctly.

~715GFlops vs 1.2TFlops, I don't think I need a link with ~70% more processing power.
