'But what about a console version' I hear you cry. Well, the news is definitely good, despite the depressing failure of the original version to make it to the 360 or PS3. "It's the first console project we would like to do," Bartkowicz confirms. "We need to do it in house. In the end we decided not to do it outsourced. We've been running some tests, and putting a small part of the game just to make sure we're not cheating anyone. We can show it to you, it is possible." Sadly, we ran out of time to see it for our own eyes, but the fact that CD Projekt is happy to go on the record and say that it's happening is good news. In fact, the game's eventual transition to console has been planned from day one. "You can playThe Witcher 2with joypad - it's implemented. The whole interface is designed with console in mind, in fact."

Emm...Ok? I was given the impression that this will be a trough and trough PC game that's ported to consoles later, but i guess not. I expected console versions, but not the game to be centered around consoles.

CD Project really grateful for all those sales, they've been boasting about i see.

Whatever, this just makes it another console port, and really i wanted to buy it to support the developers and support PC gaming, but i guess not. Shogun II and Crysis 2 always looked more appealing.

Waiting for a sale on this one.

Here is how the inventory interface looks like, courtesy of KalDurenik.

Anyone who knows anything will tell you that this is console interface.

Well do you see a smiley-face, at the end of my post? What makes this game different from the millions of console ports coming out? Thought CD Projekt is out to make a sequel for their fanbase, a PC game, not another game centered around consoles. It was a must buy for me, but now, not really.

This might have been obvious from the begining, but i didn't really follow development because i wanted to be blown away when i first played it. I'm blown away all right.

the game's eventual transition to consoleGeneralShowzer

As part of your quote says, it will be transitioned to console later. The fact that it is being developed with console controllers in mind is a smart move to make the transition to console easier. The option to play with a joypad on the PC is a nice option. I think it will be tailored well for the PC, and he didn't say it here because it goes without saying. It's a given.

Why. Do. People. Jump. To. Conclusions?! How about we wait for the game to come out and then see? PC gaming elitists are slowly becoming worse than those who say PC gaming is dying.

Not an elitist, i play all games, own consoles, but i wanted to pre-order The Witcher 2, maybe even buy the collectors edition, because i believed I was supporting a high budged PC centered game, and PC centered developers. With the competition being so high this year, I'ts not a day one buy for me anymore.

Really stop making this into something else.

It s a PC gaming-centered game. If it wasn't it would have been developed along-side the console versions or even developed after the console versions in a way of a port. PC-centred doesn't mean the developer can only make games for the PC...

I said that i was expecting console versions....But they say that the interface was designed around consoles. What's this, fixed camera, QTE bosses, all this talk about taking inspiration from Heavy Rain and Demon Souls. Egh, should have seen this coming.

like i said before i dont if devs make multiplat games (hey its more money) However... They better do the following things then or i will simply wait for the game to get cheap or a ultimate edition or something. And sadly TW2 looks like another Ultimate edition game :(... ... *A pc and a separate console UI. Not "oh lets make a console ui and then throw it into the PC version" *Options, settings, hotkeys should all be changeable on the PC version brining the graphics many times higher then the console version *Working controls *The gameplay and gameplay should not take a hit as they implement it for console.

Really?

You're championing Crysis 2 as being a PC centered game but complaining about The Witcher 2?

How does this interview change anything from any of the footage or previews you've seen before?

Don't know If Crysis 2 is a PC centered game. But i put off getting it, along with some other games because i wanted to support PC development. It's not really that hard to understand. In my eyes, The Witcher 2 is just another consolish game on PC. And it doesn't stand out from any other high profile game, RPG or otherwise.

if the pc would have been their secondary objective they would have released the game for consoles first.

Straight from ther devs:

Guys, let me clarify. The interface will utilize both perfectly. We didn't want to favor anyone. No matter if you play with a joypad or keyboard plus mouse the controls will work proper in both cases.

Inventory in the Witcher 2 will be a hybrid - that's the right word I would use. It will have elements of grid view as well as some scrolling. I can assure you that it will be really clear and user friendly. No need to worry:)

Some people just like twisting every quote to suit their ****ng, I suppose.

Complaining about a fixed camera is stupid, and the entire combat of The Witcher was a big-ass QTE.

They already have an established fanbase on PC. Put the game on PC, get money to develop the console versions and market them better. Making the console version would be easy because...it was designed with console in mind.

It's easy to make a console game work on PC, however unnatural it might feel. But porting a PC interface to consoles, you might have a big problem. What PC RPG had a fixed camera? What PC game is inspired by Arkham Asylum, Demon Souls, Heavy Rain?

Like i said its GOOD that they go multiplat... *Aslong as the gameplay, gamestyle is made for each 1 for console and 1 for PC *give options, settings, hotkeys for PC *There is one ui for the PC and one for the console (yeah i read that thing but its just damage control. honestly make the PC version have one UI made for the PC and one for the console. Having a SCROLLING inventory is retarded. *The control should be made for PC and another one made for the console. Anyway no preorder for me =/ another ultimate version this year :(.

Batman inspires the combat, which is good. I'm tired of Gothic-styIe clunky bull****. What's the problem with the camera? It's a TPS one like in a billion other RPGs, you can spin it and zoom it a bit, you can see that in any video. Plus you can control it during cutscenes IIRC. And more games should be inspired by Demon's Souls.

You are blowing their quotes out of proportions. What next, are you going to call Fallout's interface consolised?

JoWood shat on Gothic not consoles. Risen is really Gothic 4 and that is on consoles aswell.

All i see is whining here. The Witcher 2 has mostly been demoed using a controller before and i still say this interview changes nothing.

So you were pumped for the game before having seen footage and read previews, now one statement thats probably taken entirely out of context has changed your mind and suddenly its a pile of **** "Consoles in mind" doesn't mean focused on.

As for asking what recent rpg's have a fixed camera angle. Risen and Divinity 2 come to mind.

Arcania is the perfect example.

Dumbed down to the point of idiocy.

As far as - "what problems were there playing Arcania?" - The answer: None. There are no problems, challenges, imagination, or anything else in dumbed down games.

I'm supporting CD Projekt RED by pre-ordering the game.

They did well in the first game:

- intro cinematic of almost 500 MB, full motion-capture, real swordplay, runs > 500 fps. (took > 1 year to make the cinematic)

- cutscenes with near-cinematic quality, with people walking in and out of the cutscene.

- devs went the extra mile by cracking open the tech manuals and coding in nVidia-specific graphics commands (GPU command set).

Witcher 2 is vast, devs already said this is a decision-based RPG & you won't see the entire game world on the first playthrough. Also there are I believe 16 different endings.

[QUOTE="the_ChEeSe_mAn2"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"] Not an elitist, i play all games, own consoles, but i wanted to pre-order The Witcher 2, maybe even buy the collectors edition, because i believed I was supporting a high budged PC centered game, and PC centered developers. Really stop making this into something else.GeneralShowzer

Dude if a PC developer wants to take inspiration from Demon's souls that makes me respect them even more because Demon's souls was one of the best games to come out on any platform for a long time. The only bad thing I can say about that game is that its too bad it wasn't on PC. Could you imagine that game with a modding community?

I went back to play it again and I was just amazed out how well everything was done (music, sound design, atmosphere, animations). Pray their next game comes out for PC.

[QUOTE="SkyWard20"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"] They already have an established fanbase on PC. Put the game on PC, get money to develop the console versions and market them better. Making the console version would be easy because...it was designed with console in mind.GeneralShowzer
If they have a newly established fanbase for the PC they wouldn't make a game with consoles in mind firstly, and the pc only a forethought.

Have you played Arcania? Or FEAR 2? Same case.

Except those games were designed with consoles in mind while The Witcher 2 is also designed around the PC, would be dumb to downgrade that version with no console port coming out around the same time.

Really?

You're championing Crysis 2 as being a PC centered game but complaining about The Witcher 2?

How does this interview change anything from any of the footage or previews you've seen before?

GeneralShowzer

Don't know If Crysis 2 is a PC centered game. But i put off getting it, along with some other games because i wanted to support PC development. It's not really that hard to understand. In my eyes, The Witcher 2 is just another consolish game on PC. And it doesn't stand out from any other high profile game, RPG or otherwise.

You got me completely confused. You are aware that the main factor about a game is the Engine. If we reflect on various Engines than:

Cry Engine 2- PC,Cry Engine 3 more console oriented or multiplat.

Unreal 2 PC friendly. Unreal 3 more console oriented, Unreal 4 a complete console Engine.

CDC running Deus Ex HR console friendly capable however to provide great controls , and views.

The Visceral also, however EA doesn't like PC users as shown with Dead Space 2. ironic that the first game served as a image polish for EA.

The old Aurora that was running NWN2 is the same console friendly engine that was running The Witcher. NWN2 was made for a Xbox release .

All you need to do is compare screens of NWN2 and The Witcher to see what a proper upscale for PC can do to a game.

The Witcher 2 is a downscale port for consoles, the Engine is console friendly but it doesn't make it in to a console Engine.

I understand your concerns but this is something to worry about for the Witcher 3, if the game becomes a parallel development.

Here are very early ,very unpolished and incomplete views on the PC interface:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QURcotdjEQ&feature=player_embedded#

Another video is showing flawless view distances, great motion flow and fast responding animations with 360 degree turns. Can't find it now it's the dungeon escape ending.

Also non of the CD Project guys is speaking proper English, these are learned phrases like: critically acclaimed , engrossing if you watch their interviews they are using the same words again and again, like me

So just watch a few videos to see whats going on. It was confirmed that the Engine is console friendly, but the "in mind" thing is more around outsourcing the Engine later than about the game.

The first one was supposed to go to consoles and that never happened, the same thing might happen here. It doesn't sound like they're designing it for consoles and porting it to pc but the other way round. Anyway, the pc version will probably be the best if they even wind up porting it to consoles.

The artistic design of that dungeon reminds me of Demon's Souls :)

It doesn't look like anyting that a console couldn't handle of toned down a little.

To be honest though, I don't mind if Witcher 2 isn't a technical marvel. The first one wasn't, but it was still one of the best games.

Looks like the similar bland voice acting though.

Really? Had Heavy Rain and Demon Souls been released exclusively on PC (and were still the exact same games...) you wouldn't be upset. This can only be responded by this... stop whining.

Well, CD Projekt knows there the money's at. The problem is keeping their mouths shut. The game would've come out, we would've played it (oblivious), most likely enjoyed it, and if CD Projekt LATER said they were doing the port (and not said the PC version was made "with the console version in mind") we woulda been none the happier-- or wiser.

Peoples' egos are fragile, fragile things. This is a case where less info is more.

(But I haven't forgiven them for their ****-ass Saints Row 2 port and lack of support.)

"Whatever, this just makes it another console port, and really i wanted to buy it to support the developers and support PC gaming, but i guess not. Shogun II and Crysis 2 always looked more appealing."

Contradiction much?:?

Even if the controllers are built around consoles at least they didnt lie or try to sugarcoat the truth. Plus based on what i have seen for the Witcher 2 i know ill get my $50 dollars worth, something i cant say about Crysis 2.

Whether it goes to console or not, if the fighting is anything like it was in the first one.....I'd honestly have to say that I would be just like playing a console game. You just time your clicks with the sword icon and you kill things....eh, one of the most boring combat systems I've used in a while. The story was pretty good, which is what kept me playing. I'm just hoping that the second game isn't like the first one, with the very dull combat system.

Hopefully the PC version won't lose much or anything from that, I'll have to see when it comes out. Dumbed down games and stories is what people want now a days in all forms of media so if it is dumbed down it won't really be a surprise. People praising the role playing elements of Fallout 3, the story of Heavy Rain, movies like Avatar, comics like Cry for Justice, etc. It's a rare thing to get a game made just for the PC, even more than that it's rare to get a truly well made game. [QUOTE="SkyWard20"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="SkyWard20"] those played fine.

They are games with PC established audience that were designed with consoles in mind.

ok, what problems did you have while playing them?

...I'm pretty sure it isn't just him that was disappointed with Fear 2 and Arcania.
