So what is a good mid-range headset these days?

My roccat kave is packing in, microphone problems ect ect, so whats good these days?

Is there a way to get a brilliant sounding headset (better than the kave) that has great bass ect AND be able to distinguish audio locations within 3D Game enviroments?

Im hearing 5.1 is a gimmick and other methods with better stereo headsets + mic is better.

So whats the in thing? :P £40-70 price range.

If you'd be willing to get headphones and a clip-on mic separately there would be better options.

Actual headset for that budget would be something like the Siberia V2, I haven't heard them myself but they're supposed to be descent with a very "present" bass.

Have a closer look at the Creative Aurvana Live!. They have gotten good feedback on head-fi, and seems to have what you are looking for, good bass without taking too much away from mids and highs, and wide soundstage for a closed headphone.

This Zalman mic is widely recommended as a cheap clip on mic, and one of my friends actually have it, he sounds descent when talking on skype.
